But what is the article saying about price? MG should charge more but it shouldn't charge more? (autoevolution)

It seems to be saying SAIC could increase the pricing strategy on these new cars as they may be more desirable than the current range and help MG/Roewe actually show a profit. However as MG is seen as a budget brand in China any price increase could leave them with even fewer customers than it has now.

The real interst point from these pictures is that 'fastback' car between the suv's..

From a BTCC point of view they do not need to have a replacement for the MG6 in 2017 because the rules state that the car only has to be available through dealers 'at the time of homologation' of the BTCC version race car. This happend for the 6 in 2013 which is why in 2016 they still run the 'Mk1' '6. The Proton Gen3, Cevrolet Cruze etc are other examples of this still running in BTCC.

So is this fastback model a MG5/GT facelift that will come to the UK in time for MG to get it in BTCC for 2018. A decent facelift of the '5/GT with a hatchback and with the 1.5L NGE Turbo giving 170bhp could be worth a punt on the UK market..

On pricing generally - they will have to follow the lead of Kia and Hyundai and as the products become better in percieved quality and compatibility with mainstream brands then pricing can increase accordingly.

For this to really happen in the UK the new small SUV really needs to be a 'four star' rated car in Autocar and other comparable tests.
