JLR looking for Chinese JV to produce 50,000 cars a year

China has emerged as JLR's third biggest market and the company is now responsible for 14pc of all UK exports to the country.

With this in mind, [Tata Motors boss Carl-Peter] Forster is in talks with a "handful" of potential partners about setting up a manufacturing joint venture in the country. The plant would produce around 50,000 cars a year, initially Land Rovers. "We are flexible (on the type of partner) and we are not rushing," said. JLR also plans to manufacture Land Rovers on a "small scale" in India, home of its parent company Tata.
