MG Motor UK was proud to be part of the Royal Windsor MG Heritage Festival success
29.04.09
On Saturday April 25, Windsor town centre was brought to a standstill as hundreds of MGs descended on Windsor Great Park to take part in the Royal Windsor MG Heritage Festival and to celebrate 85 years of the MG marque.
MG Motor UK was the main sponsor of the Festival and unveiled the latest two derivatives of the MG TF - the TF 135 and the limited edition 85th Anniversary model. Future details on the new models will be announced shortly.
The 85th anniversary car led a 220 strong cavalcade, representing almost all of the models produced by MG since 1924, through the Quadrangle in Windsor Castle, past Prince Phillip and into Frogmore in the Great Park. The procession also included the 1.5 millionth MG to be produced, a unique TF made to celebrate the Queen’s Golden Jubilee in 2002. The watching crowd and participants alike enjoyed the spectacle of this memorable part of the day.
The Duke of Edinburgh, who owned an MG TC in 1946, hosted the parade, and the proceeds went towards the Prince Philip Trust Fund for the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead, now in its 25th year. Other activities including multi-start scenic road runs which enabled other MG owners to be involved in this fantastic event. The Prince Philip Fund helps the welfare of under privileged people and assists in training young people and encourages them to undertake voluntary work.
As part of our participation in the event, MG Motor UK also donated a brand new MG TF LE500 to the Prince Phillip Trust Fund for auction to help raise further funds.
Prince Phillip and Mr He Xiaoqing, MG Motor UK Ltd President took part in a tree planting ceremony in the castle grounds to provide a permanent reminder of the event. In due course, a commemorative plaque will also be placed in the area.
Mr He Xiaoqing said "To be major sponsors of the Royal Windsor MG Heritage Festival, such a prestigious event, in MG’s 85th year was extremely exciting and a very proud moment for us. It has been an honour to be involved in such a wonderful event as only the third automotive marque to receive this accolade, which has raised money for The Prince Philip Trust Fund. It has also been the perfect celebration of MG enthusiasts’ commitment and ongoing enthusiasm for the brand. We are extremely grateful to the Rotary Club of Windsor & Eton and the MG Owners Club for organising the event and inviting us to take part.’’

Especially if he was in 'high spirits'(!)
Though anyone from Nanjing (particularly) or Shanghai has good historical reason to dislike the Japanese...not that today's Japanese people under 80 had anything to do with the war...
...and as for the British presence in Shanghai to sell opium, I'll not go there...
I was just thinking, we tend to consider MG a historical marque, but it makes you think if MG hadn't even been thought of when the Duke of Edinburgh was born!

Scrap the old car and buy a new TF Darling? Don’t mind if I do
11.05.09
MG Motor UK Ltd is very pleased to today confirm that we have agreed our participation in the new Car and Van Scrappage scheme announced by the Chancellor, Alistair Darling, in the recent budget.
The scheme launches officially on Monday 18th May and will enable the registered keepers of circa 10.5 million qualifying cars and vans currently on the road in the UK to effectively use their existing vehicle as a ‘voucher’ to reduce the price of a new TF by £2000. This ‘voucher’ is redeemed by taking the qualifying car or van to the dealer for scrapping when the new car is ordered with MG Motor UK Ltd and the Government each contributing the sum of £1000 to be deducted from the list price (inclusive of VAT).
The basic qualifying points of the scheme are as follows:
• The car you want to scrap must be more than 10 years old.
• You must be the registered keeper of the car you intend to scrap and become the registered keeper of the new car.
• You must have been the registered keeper of the car to be scrapped for at least twelve months.
• The car to be scrapped must have a valid MOT certificate OR one that has expired less than 14 days before you place an order for your new TF.
• The dealer with whom the order is placed will be responsible for arranging to scrap your car to ensure accordance with the scheme’s requirements.
Although the scheme will not officially begin to operate until Monday Click here to find details of your local MG dealer, who will be only too pleased to talk to you about the scheme in more detail and discuss the exciting possibility of swapping a qualifying vehicle for one of the last available MG TF LE 500’s from an amazing £14,055 OTR.
We know that some of you may not want to part with your old MG and can fully understand this but please remember that any make, model and age of qualifying car or van can be scrapped through an MG dealer under this scheme.
If your old car was being used by your son or daughter before they went off to university, ask yourself this: Would it really be all that bad if they had to use public transport for a little while during the holidays? Isn’t that a small price to pay to get £2000 off the TF that Mum and Dad have always fancied? You’ve always looked after them, surely now it’s about a bit of you time? The new MG TF for £14,055 – you know you want to!
MG Motor UK Limited must regrettably confirm that, due to Government stipulation, our dealers on Jersey, Guernsey and the Isle of Man are unable to take part in this scheme.

So you still have to pay the VAT on the bit you don't have to pay, and even on the bit the dealer doesn't charge you!richardk wrote:the sum of £1000 to be deducted from the list price (inclusive of VAT).

Re: News from MG MOTOR UK Ltd
I spoke with Eleanor de la Haye at LB way back last September and she warned that 2009 would be more or less a blank news year for Longbridge, as the company was setting itself for the UK re-launch in 2010 and EEC a year later. These dates have probably been put back a little because of the recession i would guess. But at the time she wass quite adamant that Longbridge was to be the manufacturing (probably assembly) base for MG in Europe as she did not think that the Western market was ready for Chinese manufactured cars. I am guessing in that respect, that Chinese manufacturing generally has a less than acceptable reputation in this part of the world (though there is nothing to suggest to me that SAIC are anything but thorough). You've also got to remember that MG will be marketed as a unique British mark and this has been stated time and again in SAIC's business plans.
SAIC are not daft in my view, and I would do exactly the same if I was in their shoes. The government here is being shot at from pillar to post. It's faults in it's own economic strategy over the years in too much of a reliance on the City without balancing the needs of engineering and manufacturing and earning GDP through exports, is being exposed. Through Lord Mandlesson, the government have now nailed their colours to the mast by stating recently that car manufacturing in this country is now strategically of the highest importance (pitty they didn't realise that during the MGR JV talks). To coin a phrase, SAIC have got them by the short and curlies and will squeeze out every bit of assistance to return some form of employment in a key marginal seat as they can. The fact that the announcement might be made in the run up to a General Election could be construed as politically motivated but when you look into the timing, it does fit in neatly with NAC's original planning.

SISTERS BUY IDENTICAL TF LE500’S
05.08.09
Perkins of Rayne, MG Motor UK Ltd dealer for Rayne in Essex, was delighted when they recently sold identical MG TF LE500’s to local sisters Shani Herman and Carol Barber.
Shani and Carol now both own MG TF LE500’s in Graphite Grey with which they are absolutely delighted. The sisters saw the LE500 on display at a local event. Shani said ‘’we sat in the car and fell in love with it’’.
The ladies loved the car so much that they visited their nearest dealer and told them they wanted one each. When Shani and Carol collected their cars from the dealership they were presented with a bunch of flowers.
Phil Bunyard, MG Brand Manager, at Perkins of Rayne said ‘’the ladies were a pleasure to deal with and they were both very impressed with the new car. Although Mrs Herman was already an MG owner, Mrs Barber soon decided that the MG TF LE500 was the car for her.’’
The sisters recently had some sad news when their mother passed away and they thought they would do something that would make their mother smile. Carol said ‘’the cars are a present from mum, she would have loved it’’. Shani said ‘’the whole experience has been very special’’.
The sisters took their new cars on a picturesque drive, near the seaside in Suffolk. Carol, who used to own a Mazda MX5, said ‘’the TF LE500 is a good size, very sporty and is extremely good value for money’’.

Mini Celebrates 50th Birthday at Cofton Park, Longbridge
10.08.09
The
International Mini meeting and Mini’s 50th birthday was held at Cofton
Park in Longbridge, the home of Mini on Friday 7th until Sunday 9th
August 2009. The International Mini meeting occurs every five years and
with it being held in conjunction with Mini’s 50th birthday, it seemed
very fitting that the event was held at Longbridge, where Minis were
manufactured continuously for 41 years. There were many classic
Minis on display at the event, including Minis manufactured in 1959,
the Mini 40, the RSP Cooper, the Mini Moke and many more. A very
special Mini Heritage Run took place on Saturday 8th August 2009 from
the Heritage Motor Centre to the IMM’s Mini 50th celebrations at Cofton
Park and on Sunday 9th August a cavalcade of Minis went from Cofton
Park along a designated route into Centenary Square, and then Broad
Street in the centre of Birmingham. The event attracted visitors from
all over the world, including Spain, America, Portugal and Australia.
Crowds gathered on Saturday and Sunday at the MG Motor UK Ltd
Headquarters, Longbridge to watch Russ Swift do some Mini stunt driving
to the Italian job theme tune. MG Motor UK Ltd had a stand at
the event, which displayed the new 85th Anniversary car, which is
available in three limited edition colours, new 16’’ alloy wheel
design, new interior trim, exclusive 85th graphics and ‘TF85’ branded
alloy gear lever, the base model TF 135
available in seven colours with a 1.8 16v N Series engine for £13,511
OTR and the TF LE500, which comes with a free hard top, piano black
interior, rear parking sensors, 16’’ alloy wheels and each car is
individually numbered for £16,055 OTR. Jack Safiruddin, MG
Motor UK Ltd Sales & Aftersales Operations Manager said ‘’The Mini
and MG have a lot in common, both cars are iconic, British and
Longbridge is their home. It was wonderful to be part of such a
significant event and great to see such a large turnout of fans, who
travelled from all over of the World to celebrate Mini’s 50th
birthday.’’

Re: News from MG MOTOR UK Ltd
yes, business confidence seems to be picking up a bit (though we're still in the doo doo). When is a good time to launch a car? I would have thought Spring was best, not only for sportscars.richardk wrote:I get the feeling that MG are engaging a bit more across the piece - this is good news - fingers crossed iminent announcement on MG6

Dealer showcases new MGs at club event
11.08.09
MG’s official dealer in Banbury, Jaybee Motors, was delighted to attend a meeting of the MG Car Club at the prestigious location of Wyevale, at Avenue Retail Park in Bicester on Sunday 9th of August.
John Dauphin Managing Director of Jaybee Motors who was at the show, said “It was a fabulous day, we were delighted to be invited by the MG Car Club, and to be able to showcase the New MG TF LE 500 & TF 135. Apart from the obvious high quality of build, most people were really surprised at the superb value that both models represent. The weather was ideal, and the TFs looked stunning in the venue.”
Apart from the interests in the LE500 and the TF 135, dealer representatives answered a lot of enquiries about the TF 85th Anniversary model, which is due for release shortly. There was unanimous praise for its classy styling and most people commented on what an investment they are likely to be. MG Car Club did a magnificent job of organising the event, and Wyevale’s great hospitality which made everyone feel very welcome.
Colin Corne, Jaybee’s Aftersales Manager, added “Overall a great day out, we really enjoyed meeting all the enthusiasts and general public alike and look forward to doing another event at a similar venue soon.”

MG Men Behind the Scenes 6
25.08.09
Richard Hales Regional Operations Manager I
joined MG in September 2008 having an extensive AfterSales background
with MG as the Field Technical Manager and have since progressed to
Regional Operations Manager. Basically I manage a third of the MG
dealers which cover all of Scotland down to the East coast as far as
Colchester; yes, a very large area where the dealers are well spread
out. The role is to support the dealers in all aspects of operations
for Sales and AfterSales. This is indeed a challenge which brings great
rewards. I thoroughly enjoy meeting different people and working with
them. The summer has seen our dealers carry out various outdoor
events promoting the new MG brand and products. I have supported some
of these and managed to get sun burnt at a Royal show, soaked at a
shopping centre and frozen at a country show. I volunteered to help at
these because I wanted to gauge for myself the general public’s
reaction to the new MGs! There has been a definite correlation to
dealers taking the cars out of the dealerships to local events in terms
of subsequent sales. The message of “MG is BACK” is starting to get
around! Like many jobs, Mondays are always very busy days and
today is no different. I have been working on the Monday morning
reports that my dealers send me in order to capture all the previous
weeks’ sales data. I’m pleased to say July was a great month for retail
and wholesale and August is looking good also. With my admin
completed its time to set off to my first dealer visit of the day to an
MG dealership in Cambridge, this takes me just over an hour journey
time whilst I can take dealers phone calls (good job I have a good
hands free kit). Keeping the communication with my dealers is an
important part of this role. Dealers often want on the spot information
which can be crucial to capturing a sale. Then it’s off again
for a 3 hour journey to our dealer in Harrogate. Due to the journey
time I will stay in a hotel, which provides a chance to check my emails
and attend to any issues. It also provided me with the opportunity to
compile this article. Tuesday I have more appointments across the
region I operate within. Do I enjoy my job? Definitely, and the highlight is when I see a dealer hand over a beautiful MG TF to its proud new owner. This is an exciting time for all involved.
