    Press release:

    June 27 2013

MG at British F1 Grand Prix

Three of the exciting new MG3 superminis will be on show at the British F1 Grand Prix at Silverstone this weekend.

Thousands of F1 fans will be able to see the new small MG which has created a storm of interest following the recent unveiling of the full range of styling options available from launch.

Buyers will be able to have fun stamping their own character on their MG3 thanks to a fantastic personalisation palette with 10 colour choices and a wide range of exterior graphics and interior finishes.

On show in the Woodlands camping area, just 250 metres from the Silverstone circuit, will be three examples – a car in Lady Grey with Shards graphics; the second in Smokey Blues with Hope & Glory graphics and a third in White on the Tiles with Mod Oct graphics.

MG3, designed and engineered at the MG Birmingham plant, is a distinctive statement of modern British style and is designed to target young and young-at-heart buyers who want a really practical small car that is fun to buy, own and drive.
Exterior highlights include 16” Diamond cut alloy wheels, unique LED ‘hockey stick’ daytime running lights, sport-design bumper, side sill extensions, rear spoiler, sports-design rear valance, chrome exhaust finishers and MG insert headlamps.
Inside the MG3 you can find an easy to use air conditioning system, six-speaker audio, Bluetooth with audio streaming, DAB radio, USB/Aux input, automatic lights, automatic wipers, rear parking sensors, ‘ZERO’ design fabric seats and part-leather trim.

This unique and contemporary style of the MG3 is the work of the 30 design staff and 300 engineers at SAIC’s UK Technical Centre at the MG Birmingham site in Longbridge, UK. SAIC Motor is MG’s parent company and is the world’s eighth largest automotive company.
The MG3 will become the second in a new generation of MG vehicles to leave the assembly line at the Birmingham factory, following the introduction of the MG6 petrol and diesel range of GT fastbacks and Magnette four-door sports saloons.
Prices for the exciting MG3 range will be announced in August and the car will go on sale in September.
Guy Jones, MG’s Sales & Marketing Director, said: “We have only just started to roll out the MG3 in the UK and already the reaction has been fantastic. We’ve even had people already putting their names down to secure one of the first cars.
“It’s distinctive, cheeky and will be a real fun car – the vast range of styling choices means the fun starts even when you’re ordering one. But at the same time it’s a very practical car and will offer one of the very best interior space packages in class.”

From today an award-wining MG6 GT petrol model in S trim, which had a recommended on-the-road price of £15,455.00, will cost just £12,968.58 – a saving of £2,486.42.
The top-of-the-range petrol model MG6 Magnette, which had a recommended on-the-road price of £20,350, will now cost £16,981.92 – a saving of £3,368.08.
On DTi-TECH diesel models the cash savings are even greater. The MG6 DTi-TECH GT in S trim had a recommended on-the-road price of £16,995. It will now cost £13,808.58 – a saving of £3,186.42.

Guy Jones, MG’s Sales & marketing Director, said: “This is a great offer and, unlike some Zero VAT promotions, there are no exclusions or hidden catches with our offer.
“Our dealers will also be able to give customers some very competitive finance deals, so together with the great value-for-money package that the MG6 range already has, this really is a sizzling summer offer.”

News from MG MOTOR UK Ltd - Page 14 Empty First city in Britain to get two new MG dealerships

Post by patpending Thu Jul 18, 2013 11:31 am

    Press release:

    July 18 2013

First city in Britain to get two new MG dealerships

Sheffield is to become the first city in Britain to have two new MG dealerships.

Eric Stead (Garages) Ltd in Ecclesfield will cover the north of Sheffield and Grant & McAllin in Rother Valley Way, Holbrook, will cover the south side of the city. They are both on target to open by the end of August, just ahead of the launch of the new MG3 supermini.

By the end of 2013 a further six MG dealerships are expected to open at key sites across the country. Discussions are also currently taking place with several other prospective dealers in major UK towns and cities.

MG has always been at the heart of Eric Stead (Garages), a former MG Rover outlet. The dealership on The Common, Ecclesfield has continued to have a new, unregistered MG on display – it’s currently one of the last MGB GTs to be built.

Trevor Stead, the firm’s Managing Director, said: “MG has always been an important brand for us and it’s steeped in history and heritage. But it’s the MG of the future that really excites me – I can honestly say that winning the MG franchise was one of the proudest and most exciting days of my life.”

The dealership, started by Trevor’s father in 1963, has a 10 bay workshop, a modern, open nine new car showroom and employs 23 people.

Four generations of the same family are behind Grant & McAllin, now run by Lee Atack. It’s one of the oldest automotive businesses in South Yorkshire and began life in the bus and coach business.

In 2007 Grant & McAllin moved to a £2.2 million site in Rother Valley Way, just minutes away from Junction 31 of the M1. The 1.5 acre site includes a 10 bay workshop and a 25 car showroom.

Lee said: “MG has always been a brand that people love and respect and I share the same feelings. I can’t wait to start selling the new breed of MGs. I think that the MG6 is a highly competitive vehicle and from what I’ve seen of the MG3 it’s a brilliant package.

“Now everyone in Sheffield will have a local dealer and I look forward to working alongside Trevor in such exciting times.”

    Press release

    August 1

    MG3 PRICES AND SPEC ANNOUNCED

MG today made the surprise announcement that prices for the eagerly anticipated MG3 supermini will not start at £9,999, but will finish at this price, with the whole model range available for £9,999. And this is not the only surprise announcement about the affordability of the stylish new small MG.

Possibly even bigger news, especially for young drivers, is that you will be able to enjoy driving an MG3 with its sporty 106PS engine and chassis dynamics for a class leading predicted insurance group rating of just 4E*. This is less than half the rating of equivalent competitor products!

And MG3 prices have not been achieved at the expense of specification, practicality or safety. All models benefit from signature front LED lights, electronic hill hold as standard, with all but the entry model featuring a high quality DAB audio system. The sporty exterior style conceals an interior that offers one of the largest and most spacious cabins in the supermini class. With six airbags, electronic stability control, corner brake control and traction control, there is the full suite of the latest technology safety equipment standard on all MG3s.

However, the key attraction for many people will be how much fun you can have creating your own MG3, with its huge range of colours, exterior graphics, interior colour packs and leather upholstery created by the UK design team and inspired by the British fashion industry.

There are four models of MG3 to choose from and a full range of options and accessories priced as keenly as the car itself, to ensure that specifying and buying an MG3 is as much fun as owning and driving it.

At the top of the range is the MG3 3STYLE with premium 16” “Diamond” alloy wheel and a sports body styling pack that includes the rear boot spoiler and side sill extensions.  Standard high-tech convenience features include cruise control, automatic lights and windscreen wipers and reverse parking sensors, all for only £9,999.

The mid-range MG3 3FORM available for £9,299 includes air conditioning, DAB radio,  Bluetooth and audio streaming,  leather MG-design steering wheel with red stitching and steering wheel audio controls all as standard, above the entry model specification.

For those customers who want top of the range looks but find the high level of equipment in a 3FORM is enough, then there is the MG3 3FORM SPORT.  This includes all the features of the mid-range 3FORM with the sports body styling pack and 16” “Carousel” alloy wheels at £9,549.

The entry model MG3 3TIME costs £8,399 and features a CD player with MP3 compatibility and Aux-in facility in addition to all the standard features on all MG3s.

All models are powered by a sporty 106PS petrol engine with a five speed manual gearbox and have the same great MG chassis designed to make driving the MG3 a bit more fun than your average small car.

Sales & Marketing Director Guy Jones said; “The MG3 gives the market something really new; a stylish, highly practical, small car with many options for personalisation that is fun to drive, fun to buy and fun to own. With all models in the range priced below £10,000 and insurance expected to be just 4E, we can offer this type of product at a price position that no competitor can match.

“MG became world famous for building distinctive, British, small, fun cars at a remarkably affordable price that owners then personalised to their own individual style.  The MG3 is the new small, modern MG that allows a new generation of people to have fun with their MG”

Available in dealerships from September 2013, the MG3 is already generating huge levels of interest.

MG Motor have changed their policy in respect of press releases. They now offer them as PDF downloads and we have not been alerted to new press releases in the past few weeks as we once were.

It is proving tricky just to paste the contents of the PDF into this thread as each word is posted into my clipboard as a new line.

Until I can achieve pasting the release here properly with the help of Laura Biss, MG Motor UK's new PR Manager, Sales and Marketing, I shall be posting links to the latest press releases:

    Isn't that a bit stupid?

If you want your news to be distributed around the internet on news feeds, RSS, google search etc, don't you need a plain text version?

Our own RSS and news feed, which google etc search doesn't take any sort of formatting and certainly not pdfs: http://www.mguk.org/rss & http://feeds2.feedburner.com/MGUK  so I don't expect most others do either...

Maybe MG Motor UK don't want the general population to read their news confused

I can't understand it myself.  Including the maximum amount of a press release in your own publication means you do least work. Let's face it, it was you who said "so where are the latest press releases?" when hearing of Laura's appointment and the ensuing detective work.

If it is hard to get MG Press Releases into publications, people won't bother.

"But Mr Dent, the plans have been available in the local planning office for the last nine months."
"Oh yes, well as soon as I heard I went straight round to see them, yesterday afternoon. You hadn't exactly gone out of your way to call attention to them, had you? I mean, like actually telling anybody or anything."
"But the plans were on display ..."
"On display? I eventually had to go down to the cellar to find them."
    "That's the display department."
    "With a torch."
"Ah, well the lights had probably gone."
    "So had the stairs."
"But look, you found the notice didn't you?"
"Yes," said Arthur, "yes I did. It was on display in the bottom of a locked filing cabinet stuck in a disused lavatory with a sign on the door saying 'Beware of the Leopard'."

Exactly, and for most destinations that means it going in automatically with zero effort, or at least formatting itself into the destination documents format automatically when pasted. PDF kills that ability, and very few people will be prepared to keep MG's layout anyway.

Looks like it is very easy to paste Hitch-Hikers Guide to the Galaxy - that certainly sold well!

Latest MG dealer to open in Gloucester

    September 30 2013
Latest MG dealer to open in Gloucester
The latest MG dealer will open for business shortly in Gloucester in a new
    purpose-built showroom.
Warners MG will be run by the Warners Motor Group, one of the bestknown
independent motor dealers in Gloucestershire. The group has an
automotive history stretching back 90 years.
The new four-car showroom faces the busy A38 Eastern Avenue, Gloucester’s
ring road, and is one of the most prominent sites in the city. It will open for
business in October. Four new jobs are expected to be created at the new
dealership which has an eight-bay workshop and will offer full MG parts and
    services alongside car sales.
Chris Smart, Warners’ Director and Dealer Principal, said: “We’re really
excited about becoming an MG dealer and looking forward to having the new
MG3 and the MG6 range here.
“MG is a terrific brand and fits perfectly with our family business. Our history
goes back as long as the iconic MG brand and we were for many years an MG
Rover dealership at Tewkesbury. It’s great to see the MG name back with us.”
Warners’ Gloucester site also sells Peugeot cars and the group has two further
    dealerships in Cheltenham and Tewkesbury.
Mike Warner, Chairman of the Warners group, said he had happy memories of
MG but was even more impressed with the future of the brand.
He said: “This is a great time to be involved again with the MG brand. The
MG3 is a thoroughly impressive car at an eye-catching price which we know
has already created a huge amount of interest.
“We’re proud to be associated with MG and to be part of the modern MG
story going forward. We have every confidence in the brand.”

News from MG MOTOR UK Ltd - Page 14 205

MG dealer to open in Woking
Woking will become the latest town in Britain to have an MG
dealership when SMC Motor Group opens a purpose-built new
    showroom next month.
It will become the 12th new MG dealership to open in the last 18
months as the MG network of outlets continues to expand.
SMC are busy getting their three-car showroom prepared in
St Johns Road, just off the busy A324, which will serve a large
area of Surrey, Hampshire and the London commuter belt.
James Kimber, Managing Director of the SMC group, said: “We’re
really excited about the new MG franchise and I think MG is
going to be a real force again in British motoring.
The arrival of MG to our group is perfect timing with the recent
launch of the MG3, which is a class-leading car and, alongside the
MG6, I think it will do really well with our target audience here,
many of whom will know and love the MG brand.”
The MG3 offers you countless personalisation options, you can be
sure to stand out from the crowd in your very own FUN style.
SMC Motor Group has four operations serving Surrey and
Hampshire, with two dealerships in Woking plus another in
Aldershot and a fourth in Weybridge. It is a family run business
employing 71 people and next year the group celebrates its 30th
    anniversary.
James Kimber added: “We are investing now in a new showroom in
St Johns in Woking but our intention is to expand in the future as
the MG business grows and we are very excited about the future.”
SMC Motor Group also holds franchises for Renault, Dacia and Seat.
A new MG dealership is about to open for business in Gloucester
and two dealerships have opened recently in Sheffield.

News from MG MOTOR UK Ltd - Page 14 Empty Scrum down for Warners MG opening

Post by patpending Mon Nov 25, 2013 10:56 am

    Press release 25/11/2013:

"Scrum down for Warners MG opening"

Gloucester Rugby Club captain, Tom Savage, will be among the guests at the official opening of Warners MG in Gloucester.

The official opening of the new MG dealership takes place from 6pm on Tuesday, November 26 and it will certainly have a strong rugby flavour.

Alongside the Gloucester captain, Matt Bayliss - who is one of the best-known faces in Gloucester rugby circles - will be at the opening. Matt is the Communications Manager for Hartpury College’s rugby club where Tom Savage played his rugby before joining the Aviva championship side.

Chris Smart, Warners’ Director and Dealer Principal, said: “It’s great that these well-known rugby characters are supporting our new MG venture.

“Tom’s a 6ft 6ins, 18-stone forward and seems to slot into the new MG3 with ease, so if he can then anyone can! We know that space and comfort are among the many wining features of the new MG and I don’t think anyone will be disappointed.”

Matt Bayliss seems equally comfortable in an MG6 GT and he will be soon seen around many of the rugby clubs in Gloucestershire in his new car.

Warners MG has a new four-car showroom on its busy site which faces the busy A38 Eastern Avenue, Gloucester’s ring road.

Guests on the opening night who book an MG test drive will be given a £25 voucher and Warners are expecting plenty of takers!

Gloucester City Councillor Lise Noakes will also attend the formal opening.

    Press release 3/12/2013:

Christmas comes early to mark official opening for MG in Sheffield

Christmas is coming early for one of Sheffield’s new MG dealers.

Eric Stead (Garages) is holding a special early Christmas party this weekend, complete with all the Christmas trimmings, to mark the official opening of the new MG dealership.

Trevor Stead, the firm’s Managing Director, said: “We’ve already taken orders for five MG3s and it’s a car that has really caught peoples’ imaginations. It offers such great value for money and word is now spreading fast.

“We’re now fully up and running and thought it would be a great time to celebrate, so we’ve laid on an early Christmas party.

“There will be mince pies, mulled wine and carols and we have three £100 Christmas hampers to give away in a prize draw as well as a Christmas lucky dip for the kids.

“Usually buying a new car isn’t on list of things people plan to do in the run up to Christmas, but we’ve been very busy with the new MG3.

Alongside an MG3 3STYLE demonstrator, Eric Stead also has new petrol and diesel MG6 GTs and an MG6 Magnette on show.

Eric Stead, in Ecclesfield in the north of Sheffield is one of two MG dealers in the city. Grant & McAllin in Rother Valley Way covers the south of Sheffield and is planning an opening event in January.

MARC HYNES ANNOUNCED AS 3RD MG BTCC DRIVER

MG Motor are delighted to confirm that our presence in the 2014 Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship will be augmented by the presence of another MG6 GT, again prepared by the series most successful ever team, Triple Eight Race Engineering. In addition to the existing MG KX Momentum Racing team, this means three MG6's will compete on the grid. The car will be driven by the hugely experienced, multi-title winning Marc Hynes and we have today issued the following press release:

British F3 Champion Marc Hynes has chosen to return to BTCC in an MG6 for the 2014 season, the third MG6 running in the championship next year.

Hynes, 35, will race a Triple Eight-prepared MG6 and will dovetail the BTCC programme with his current management role with the Marussia F1 Team.

The addition of a third car comes at the end of a very successful 2013 season for MG which saw Jason Plato narrowly miss out what would have been a third Championship title with the MG KX Momentum Racing team, after securing previous wins in 2001 and 2010. MG Driver, Sam Tordoff also had an outstanding maiden season , landing four career podium places in the MG6

Speaking yesterday, Marc said: ‘’I am hugely excited about racing in the BTCC. The series looks better than ever; strong teams and drivers with big crowds and great TV coverage. The BTCC package presents a commercially viable formula, which is pretty rare these days. I always knew that I had unfinished business in a race suit and I feel very privileged to have been presented with the opportunity to go racing with Triple Eight and MG.'

MG Sales and Marketing Director, Guy Jones said: “We are delighted to be running a third MG next season, with a driver of Marc’s talent and experience. We have had a great response to MG returning to BTCC and last season we narrowly missed out on the championship title. We are really looking forward to increasing awareness of MG in 2014 with our new MG3 and more MG6s on the road and on the track.”

Marc’s car is based on the road going MG6, available with both 1.8l petrol and 1.9l Diesel power trains, and in GT (fastback) and Magnette (saloon) body style variants. Designed, engineered and assembled at MG’s historic home of Longbridge, Birmingham, the MG6 offers class leading interior space, the lowest insurance group of its competitors and total confidence in safety with 4* NCAP rating and a What Car? Best Security Award. Customers can automatically upgrade up a trim level, saving up to £3,000 until 31 December.

Press release quoted on Facebook 12/12/13:

I am delighted to announce that a press release has been issued today confirming the appointment of the next new MG dealer. W H Brand in Spalding is a long established family business established in 1925, only a year after MG! The press release reads:

MG’s latest dealer in Spalding took an order for an MG3 even before being appointed!

W.H. Brand has now been officially appointed as the MG dealer covering the Spalding and Peterborough areas of Lincolnshire and Cambridgeshire.

Sales Manager, Adam Brand, explained that the dealership clocked up its first order a couple of weeks ago. He said: “We were MG Rover Group dealers for many years and still have lots of customers who own older MGs.

“A customer with an MG ZS and an MG F rang us and said he was really interested in buying an MG3 because he had read so many good reports about the car. He went on to place an order for an MG3 3Form Sport in White on the Tiles even before all the formalities on our MG franchise were complete.

“I know that the new generation of MGs will appeal to our customers with legacy MG products and we can’t wait to start selling the new cars. I’ve driven both the MG6 and MG3 and they are superb cars offering great value for money.”

W.H. Brand, based in Whaplode Drove, Spalding, will officially begin trading today (December 12) and plan to have a full opening event in January.

Works on new showrooms for MG have been completed and the dealership will have MG3 demonstrators alongside an MG6 GT and an MG6 Magnette sports saloon.

W.H. Brand is a family business which was established in 1925 by Adam’s great-grandfather, William Horace Brand. It now has a staff of 16.

The dealership is 13 miles north of Peterborough and 12 miles south of Spalding.

New MG dealers recently opened in Woking, Gloucester and in north and south Sheffield. News of further new appointments will be announced shortly.
    / Keith

There are now four dealers in Lincolnshire - W H Brand; with Victor Wood in Grantham; Charles Warner in Lincoln; and Hartwells in Immingham. I had not realised that Imperial in Grimsby have given up the franchise (Immingham is very close), though it does mean my searches will not return a lot of answers in ounces when I search for "imperial mg" lol.

I note that W H Brand are the Lincolnshire dealer who remained active with MGR cars to 2008 when the last were sold. Now Chevrolet are leaving the UK W H Brand are returning to the fold!

    Press release

    7 JANUARY 2014
MG announces global success ahead of 90th anniversary year

    • MG Parent company SAIC achieves record sales of 5.1 million in 2013

    • MG and Roewe global sales reach 230,000
    • MG UK sales increase significantly in November 2013 following successful MG3 launch

MG Parent company SAIC Motor achieved record global sales of over 5.1 million units, an increase of 13.71% on 2012 sales and is the first Chinese automotive manufacturer to exceed five million units in a year. 230,000 units of this extraordinary end of year figure can be attributed to global sales of the MG and Roewe marques.
Global MG sales are set to increase further in 2014, with the opening of a SAIC manufacturing facility in Thailand, enabling the company to expand into South East Asia. Production capacity will be around 50,000 vehicles a year, mainly consisting of MG vehicles.
MG sales continue to increase in the UK, as the historic marque looks forward to 2014 and its ninetieth anniversary year. In the last few months, MG UK has achieved record sales growth due to the launch of the MG3 in late September. MG reported a 257% increase in sales for November 2013 over November 2012, and the SMMT named the historic marque as the second best improver in UK sales for November 2013 over its performance in the previous year. December 2013 was the best December in the company's history, nearly 30% up on previous year's sales for these months.
Since the first customer collection in November 2013, 210 MG3s have already been registered in the UK, and sales look to increase rapidly in 2014 with nearly 1,000 orders waiting to be filled. Staff at the Birmingham plant forwent their Christmas celebrations to complete as many orders as possible before the Christmas break. Over 90% of MG3 orders so far consist of the top two trim lines,1 with 40% of customers opting to style their cars from the selection of over one million personalisation options available.
Sales of MG6 GT and Magnette variants are set to improve in 2014 thanks to the decrease in CO2 emissions for Diesel variants (from 139g/km to 129g/km) making the model a viable fleet option for the first time.
Current Q1 offers allow customers to benefit even further as already exceptional levels of spec are now better than ever with free upgrades on all Petrol and Diesel specifications, a saving of up to £3,000, until 31 March 2014.2Lease offers are also available on all variants from only £199 a month.3
The MG UK dealer network will grow significantly in 2014 following a programme to recruit dealers including sponsoring the prestigious Automotive Management awards in February.  A significant number of new applications have already been received. In recent months new MG dealerships have opened in Woking, Gloucester, Cambridge and two in Sheffield with more to follow in the coming months.

    Press release:

    January 13 2014

MG3 is dealer’s fastest selling car

MG’s new MG3 supermini has become the fastest selling car that a widely experienced Midland dealer has ever sold.

Summit Garage (Dudley) in the heart of the Black Country was established in 1945 and has been closely associated with MG ever since it first started trading.

John Newey, who runs Summit with his brother, Nick, said: “It’s quite astonishing. I’ve taken firm orders for 10 MG3s and I expect to take lots more as people begin to realise just what a great value-for-money package the car is.

I’ve had customers trading in Ford Fiesta, Nissan Micra and Vauxhall Corsas and they have all been staggered by the low price and high levels of standard equipment on the MG3.”

Summit Garage, in Himley Road, Lower Gornal, Dudley, is one of 10 MG dealer and service outlets in the Midlands. A total of 13 new MG dealerships have opened across the UK in the past 20 months as the dealer network continues to expand.

Alongside the MG3 Summit has an MG6 GT DTi-TECH diesel demonstrator and the dealership is also an authorised MG service and repair centre.

Summit Garage was started by John and Nick’s grandparents, Jack and Olive Newey, in 1945.

John is a huge MG fan and privately owns several classic MGs, including a rare carbon fibre bodied MG SV-R, an MGR V8 and an MG ZTT diesel automatic with 193,000 miles on the clock. John plans to hit the 200,000 mile milestone in it this year.

He said: “MG produced some great cars in the past, but I’m equally excited about the future and selling the new MG3. It’s a superb car and offers unbeatable value for money.

I’ve driven both the MG6 and the MG3 extensively and they are both impressive cars packed with all the sophisticated equipment that you would normally pay extra for on other cars.

The latest MGs have all the hallmarks of earlier MGs and I welcome both current and new MG customers to come and see the latest models – although interestingly the latest MGs are attracting people who have never owned MGs before.”

In recent months new MG dealerships have opened in Woking, Gloucester and two in Sheffield.

They join the ranks of new MG dealers in Brighton, Derby, Stoke-on-Trent, Cambridge, Lincoln, Grimsby, Cwmbran in South Wales and Baldock in Herts.
