In Autocar we are told it will be called something else:

No name has yet been chosen for the small SUV. The model’s internal name at MG is ZS; the same name which MG’s sporting hatchback bore over a decade ago. However, despite reports to the contrary, this will not be the final car’s name, according to Cheyne. The car will, however, have a two-letter name like the GS.

I note the car will be unveiled at next year's London Motor Show!

News of a new MG model so soon after the UK launch of the GS is exciting. In fact I think this level of new model development and introductions may well be unprecedented in MG's long history.

I am however less impressed with Autocar these days. They used to be on the ball with MG in the past but this article and their previous online one on the GS, (which right up to lauch said that it would have a 2.0L engine option and start from £18k) was poorly researched and clearly wrong.

To be more accurate I suggest the latest news on the 'MG ZS' should read:

'MG is working hard on the development of it's 'Juke rival', known in the company as the ZS, but expected to have another two letter name, possibly 'GR' to fit with the current worldwide MG range of GT saloon and GS suv. The new model will be previewed at the Auto Gaungzhou show in Chana this October before a Spring 2017 launch in China. The UK version (which like it's big brother, the GS will be little different to the Chinese version) will be shown at London Motor Show in May 2017 prior to a UK launch in November 2017'.

I think that is what they meant to say, if they had done a bit of research!

This is totally different front end style. Will all MGs will get the same style? It doesn't look good, in my opinion...

This is a bold style change for MG and I hope it heralds a new confidence in the products. I am pleased my prediction in August (post above) was correct about a China launch at the Guangzhau show this month. I also read in Autoexpress that they are testing a 1.5L verson. If this is the same engine as the GS (166bhp) then the ZS/GR could be a really sporty car in the true tradition of MG - and maybe the sporty versions will have a smarter black surround to the new grille, a la Mazda..
I am also still hoping to see some interior updates to the '3 for 2017 too..

Hmm. The grille is very 'Jaguar' although, if you look at it, it's actually a distorted octagon.

But it's a bit of a change from the Icon - none of the design cues explored on that car have reached the final shape, except a bolder use of chrome. It's a pity because, although the Icon was way over the top, some of the 'classic' MG hints should still be employed on the new generation.

It still has the MG6 and MG GS 'issue' of too high a ride height and wheels that don't fit the arches.

    I wish they'd be brave.

    According to Car News China:

The MG ZS will be launched on the Chinese car market in the first half of 2017. It will be positioned below the MG GS. Sales in the U.K. is scheduled to start in late 2017.

There will be two engines available: a 1.5 with 120hp and 150nm mated to a six-speed automatic or a six-speed manual, and a brand new 1.0 3-cylinder turbo with 125hp and 170nm, mated to a 6-speed DCT or a 6-speed manual. The ZS is front-wheel drive.

Interesting that the 1.5 is a NA (non turbo) engine perhaps only for China - or will this, presumably NGE type 1.5L engine find it's way into the MG3 for that car's facelift in 2018?

Ah, I take some of it back - it does have the 'hips' over the rear wheels as per the Icon (and MGA) but those wheels!! Neutral
