As linked to by Richard: http://www.mgmotor.co.uk/news-events/news/wanted-mg-road-names/

MG Motor UK is currently undertaking further development of the famous Longbridge Birmingham factory site.
As part of this process, access roads on the site are being re-named to reflect the heritage of the MG brand. We want MG owners, MG club members & fans to participate and help us choose the new names; in total there are five roads involved and if you would like to make a suggestion please do so via the ‘contact us’ section of our website. Selected participants will be asked to visit MG Motor and be photographed alongside ‘their’ newly designated street sign.
The deadline for suggestions is Friday 26th February 2010.

Only obvious or not-too-likely suggestions here - good names to MG Motor and keep them quiet!

    • Austin Avenue
    • Wolseley Way
    • Studio Street (named after MGM, MG Motor)

(oh yes, the M.G. Road in Bangalore is named after Mahatma Gandhi)

I've sent a few in this morning already...along the lines of...

    Magnette Drive
    Phoenix Way
    Shanghai Road
    Longbridge Road
    Octagon Street
But the end word is prescribed by the council I believe as depending on the type of road it determines the naming convention.

It would be interesting if MG were to share the changes that were happening to the site road network

I wondered about also trying to work in 'Powertrain', 'Mayo Way' 'Flight Shed' or the name of the planes they built in the war -0 Longbridge played such a key role in wartime manufacturing.

the map is right at the end of a document designed to save ink, not paper.

I take it the developments at D are on the East Works/ Powertrain site we visited?

    Where is the factory?

The main feature I recognised was of course the famous sewage works!

There are two maps - the first shows the main site with the factory not coloured in snuggling between the orange Z zones (old office bloacks now going to be residential and the blue X1 and X2 zones. The second map shows as you say the powertrain area which is all for development.

It will be a posh area when all that is done and fingers crossed the remaining factory is big enough for all the european production

When I was looking for the above map I also found another on site condition drainage which was interesting I'll see if I can find the link again. oh here it is...http://eplanning.birmingham.gov.uk/Northgate/DocumentExplorer/documentstream/documentstream.aspx?name=public:0901487a80ab534b.pdf&unique=397128&type=eplprod_DC_PLANAPP

speaking personally, I think of "Pukou! Pukou!" as the call of a tropical bird and "Lingang!" as something Vic & Bob might call out if you get an answer wrong - or is that "eranu"? Wink

Yes - Is the only piece of industrial archeology to be saved from the Longbridge site going to be from the railway industry?

we know they made planes at Longbridge, just as American-owned Opel made plane bits for the Luftwaffe during the war.

Did they ever make anything for the railways?
