On February 6th 2009 the first national gathering of MG and Roewe dealers took place in Nanjing.
It was announced that in 2008, the combined sales of MG and Roewe brands amounted to 35,214 vehicles, of which Roewe accounted for 26,007 and MG 9,207. An annual increase of 115%.
SAIC's goals for 2010 are annual sales of 2 million motor vehicles with 600,000 of those from its own independent brands, the rest from joint ventures with VW and GM, together with an international operating income of five billion US dollars.
The executive vice president of SAIC, Chih-Hsin Chen announced at the meeting that during 2009, MG and Roewe dealers along with their after sales networks will be integrated under the "Shanghai Automotive" parent brand. At present, due to the newness of the brands, there is little income from the after sales network. Efforts will be made during 2009 to increase the amount of government procurement supporting the own brands.
