    Yearby bank. Empty Yearby bank.

Post by Dynamo Thu Jun 23, 2011 12:52 pm

I know that most people here won't know it, but close to where I live is a road known as Yearby Bank. Its long and steep and straight between the villages of Yearby and Dunsdale in East Cleveland. After coming out of Yearby at the required 30mph, I noticed that the road ahead was completely empty, and that the miles on my clock had registered above 600. I was in 4th gear so I said to myself "come then then, lets see what you can do", so I just left it in 4th and put my foot down. The acceleration was really really sweet and before I realised, I was needing to throttle back well before the top. I won't say what speed I was doing, but I was very very impressed. Very Happy

After leaving Gatesehead on Wednesday I drove South on the A19 on Wednesday which happens to be not many miles from where your road is. Unfortunately (or fortunately on the cost front) I was not in my car but a work one at the time.

So Yearby Bank is nothing to do with getting maximum advantage from a 12-month 0% interest credit card deal and saying "So long".

The towns and villages of Western Finland have similarly Viking names, such that you put Eastern England in the extreme West. lol!

Isn't the capital of the Faroe ("far island") Islands called Longyearbyen?

    Thanks,

I wondered why you answered the question of where Cleveland is by a link to Yearby Bank. Wikipedia gave me the answer:

    "Cleveland was abolished in 1996."

However the Cleveland Hills still exist, located in the North Yorkshire National Park.

    That would be Tórshavn.

Longyearbyen is the capital of Svalbard located on the island of Spitsbergen and is the most northerly town in the world.

Tell me about it. Nobody seems to know if we are in Cleveland or Teesside or North Yorkshire, or wherever. Whenever I put my address into some or other web site, I always find I live somewhere different. scratch

Anyway, at least you know where I mean now lol.

BTW, I forgot to mention that when the car was really motoring up the bank, the revs were still only about 3,000. Cool
