Roewe Hybrid to be launched in 2010
Development of hybrid and fuel cell engines began in early 2006 with the first prototypes appearing using the Shanghai brand. SAIC have now announced low volume production of a hybrid version of the Roewe 750 to be launched using the Roewe brand during the World Expo in 2010.
The current testing program is running smoothly with a 25% fuel saving and Euro 4 emission standard expected. The technology is from SAICs own independent R&D developed with help from local universities and uses super capacitors for brake energy recovery.
The fuel cell version, which was first shown at the 2007 Shanghai auto show, uses their fourth-generation fuel cell technology and currently has a maximum output of 60KW, 0-100km in 15 seconds, top speed 150kph and a range of 300km on one tank of hydrogen.
