Since BMW sold MG-Rover, the British brand has seemingly ceased to exist. And yet MG has been producing cars in Birmingham for the last six years
. Coming soon are the first cars to be sold on the European continent.

Birmingham - Like no other brand, MG embodies the rise and fall of the British automobile industry. But unknown to many: unlike other former brands, the former sports car maker has survived until today. As part of the Chinese SAIC Group, the British continue to build cars in England.
For early 2015 MG is now planning to make the leap back onto the European continent. "However, we shall first be concentrating just on the smaller European markets. Therefore, Germany will not initially be in our target countries", said MG spokesman Doug Wallace.

PRODUCTION HAS BEEN RUNNING FOR SIX YEARS

MG, until 2000 a part of the BMW Group along with Rover, has been owned by SAIC, the largest Chinese car company, since December 2007. Since September 2008[patnote: since August 2007], MG models have been produced again in Birmingham.

In the past year MG-Roewe - the IP rights to the Rover brand are still held by BMW [sic, actually JLR]- sold 230,000 models worldwide. A successor brand to Rover is to be marketed, according to the plans of the Chinese corporate executives, exclusively in the People's Republic. [patnote: Roewe on sale in China since October 2006] According to this strategy, MG takes on the mantle of the brand competing in international markets. In addition to Europe, and the United States could be included "if the opportunity arises," said an MG spokesman.

COMFORT FIRST, THEN SPORT

The focus of development is initially on saloons, which will serve as a basis for the future growth of the brand. Only when this stage is completed, said a company spokesman in Birmingham, "will there be a sportscar again."
In the UK, MG is gradually finding its way back to the old times. In the first quarter of 2014 they sold more cars than in the entire previous year. Currently, there is a range of two models: the sporty MG3 (1.5 litres, 106 hp) and the 4.65-meter-long MG6 saloon with 160-horsepower petrol engine or 150-hp diesel. Prices for the MG6 are equivalent to between €18,960 and €23,700 euros. The price list for the compact MG3 starts at €10,300 euros and ends at €12,260.

In 2009 there was a chance a few people might have switched from their MGRs as daily cars. No big chance now, and surely no chance later than 2015.

The Germans were already more or less unaware of the Zeds and that will be a *very* tough market to sell into.

We want CS, 5, autos, diesels, turbos, sportscar, enough dealers even in the UK - it all seems to be going too slowly...
