Source: http://auto.sohu.com/20110407/n305436314.shtmlExposed to the world, new concept car MG5! Shanghai Auto Show world debut
Overview: British designer has been commissioned to design a team for the 2011 Shanghai International Motor Show concept show car - MG5. By this concept we will list MG brand in 2012 the first half of the new 5-door hatchback.
This concept car auto show in Beijing last year continued to appear on MG Zero concept car's success. MG5 highlight the concept car will be more refined, dynamic and a sense of volume. The new concept car MG5 (compared to Zero) located in the larger segment of the market for more mature markets, and the shape of fashion without sacrificing any of the premise, provides better usability. Zero earlier generation of consumer groups for the young, to personalize the style and high-tech as the main selling point. The MG5 concept car is designed for consumer groups to create a more mature, they are more concerned about the details, more likely to be those trendy high-tech technology impressed.
Overall, the good shape of the car indicates that the product, but using a more low profile top shape in order to strengthen its motion characteristics and proportions of other size is completely born out of the product vehicle.
Effect of body painting using a unique cold metal effect, showing a strong texture and effect. Metal decoration on the front bumper pieces reflect their self-confidence and simple, smooth styling and increased high-tech image of the MG brand. Air diffuser under the rear (generally used for racing, are air package) is further distillation of its motion characteristics.
Column with a black roof in order to enhance the visual strength, the perfect run through the front windshield as a whole, strengthen its overall effect. Integrated rear spoiler and body posture is optimized for aerodynamic performance.
Continued from MG Zero concept car, the headlights applied the latest in technology: The LED elements of the fashionable and can be extended to enhance the visual effect of the width of the front, while the rear side of the car is higher than the shoulder line to show a more radical vision gesture. Daytime running lights front and rear fog lamps strengthen the more stickers, the wider body posture.
MG logo in front of a unique focus on rushing out, projected to create a very dynamic and progressive form. Hood features undulating line will look forward grille lead by a slender smooth slide into a very light tank sculptural headlamps. Lower, larger grille opening movement of the gene concept to the extreme. Mesh grille from the patchwork composed of octagonal holes. Cutting through the surface smoother and more emphasis on visual width of the style, reveals the future more sophisticated, refined grille design direction.
Concept car perfectly balanced shape of the wheel and the wheel for the relationship to each other more closely. Slightly wider than the product of the track car, showing a more stable and more attached to the motion of the body shape. The shape of the wheel must have a very high-tech and lightweight feel.
MG5 concept car demonstrates the generation of the MG brand new design language:
MG5:
- more mature,
- more sophisticated,
- more refined.

It will be interesting to see if the actual concept car looks any more or less nose-heavy, I suspect it will look better than the drawings as the MG6 did...

Looks stunning, best looking out of the new MGs, but it is strange having two Focus rivals. Can't wait to see the real thing.

If the MG3 and the MG5 share a platform, will the production MG5 have the fuel filler cap on the right?
Don't know which side the new TF will have it then

They will have to spoil the back when they put the number plate on but I hope they don't loose the styling, although the rear window may be a bit small like that and it is the small window that has alowed them to improve the styling...Steven211 wrote:That is a stunning car, obviously it will be down toned for the production version, but still nice.

That additional crease at the top of the door on the concept is where the shoulder should be.

Re: MG5 Concept Car
A nice write up from the Brisbane Times:
Source: http://brisbanetimes.drive.com.au/motor-news/mg-reveals-its-new-style-20110420-1dnz0.htmlMG reveals its new style
Historic name continues revival under Chinese rule.
The revival of MG revved up in Shanghai this week with the unveiling of a concept hatch that reveals the company's new design language and signals the arrival of a small-car competitor for the likes of the Ford Focus and VW Golf.
Called the MG Concept 5, the car is likely to drop only the "Concept" part of its name for production, given the current MG hatchback line-up includes the larger 6 and smaller 3. It should be released in both China and the UK within two years.
Owned by Shanghai Auto Industry Corp (SAIC) since 2007, the storied British brand has slowly been emerging from bankruptcy doldrums. Limited assembly of the 6 has recently commenced at the old MG-Rover Longbridge plant.
MG is making a come back with the, MG Concept 5, which was shown at the 2011 Shanghai motor show.
SAIC also owns Rover, or what is now named Roewe (pronounced Row-vay) and the 5 shares with the Roewe 350 its front-wheel drive architecture. Dubbed AP, it is the first set of underpinnings developed by SAIC for its British brands.
But the exterior of the concept is the best of British, the sleek shape developed by SAIC Motor global design director Anthony Williams-Kenny and his team at Longbridge.
"The key to this is the British values that run through the MG brand," he says. "Those values are trying to be very fashionable, youthful, on-trend and progressive.
Williams-Kenny, who also designed last year's much-lauded MG Zero concept (since launched into production as the MG3) says the 5 progresses MG's styling to the next step.
"This car is showing what the next steps are," says Williams-Kenny. "My real start point was the MG Zero. That car started the real youthful, fashionable trend for the MG brand. This car takes it further. It's a bigger concept, more mature, more sophisticated, more dramatic and slightly edgier for a more mature customer."
Little detail was released about the car in Shanghai, but it shares its 2650mm wheelbase with the Roewe 350 and the overall length is about 4.4m. The windows of the concept were blacked out but Williams-Kenny promised the interior styling would be "strong".
SAIC Motor is one of the biggest and strongest Chinese car manufacturers, selling both its own brand vehicles and joint-venture products with GM and Volkswagen. As yet it has announced no plans to sell its MG line-up in Australia, even though the cars are built in right-hand drive for the UK.

I think SAIC will be chuffed to read that the papes see Roewe as Rover, just with a new name. I know Guy was saying "Roo-way" last year. Maybe Roewe is the ideal brand for Australia - or Roebwe (Roo-bar)?
Could a semi-amphibious car be launched for Oz from Lingang called the Rang-Roebwe (pron. Land-Lubber?)
