Roewe 950 Revealed Empty Roewe 950 Revealed

Post by Windy Thu Mar 12, 2009 1:03 am

Actually, we have pictures of the R95 and R95L, previously thought to be the Roewe 850, we dont know why there is no 0 on the end of the number.

In the fourth picture, the logo on the boot looks more like R85, not R95.

    Also, there are pictures of a V8 engine (XGI5000?) and a 3600cc in-line 6.

    So is that a 6 for the R85, and a V8 for the R95L?

There is a 2.8 V6 and a 3.6 V6, the status of the V8 is unclear at present as it's not had government approval for manufacture, probably because it has not been applied for yet.

I think the 4th picture is the same car as the second picture, the gap in the 9 is too small to easily see the difference on a low res pic.

The 3.6 engine shown is described as 'In-line', so not a V6.

On the cars, you might be right about the 8 and the 9, it's hard to tell.

It just has nothing to tie it to the rest of the range, does it? The fog or driving lamps look bloody awful too.

    SAIC Roewe R95

The new Roewe R95 based on the new generation Ssangyong Chairman W is expected to launch at the Shanghai International Motor Show.

With the earlier exposure of the Roewe version of the Ssangyoung Kyron this shows the Roewe product line expanding into the high-end models.

The Roewe R95 will be placed above the Roewe 750 and will become the Roewe brand's flagship model, it will be SAIC's first own brand luxury car model.

The Roewe R95 has been approved in the Department of Public Works new directory No. 185 with the code numbers CSA7280, CSA7360 which shows that not only will there be 2.8L and 3.6L engines variants, but also shows that they can now be marketed at any time.

The Roewe R95 version has body contours and proportion fully consistent with the new Ssangyong Chairman W but the grill shape and style differ and the rear has some change in shape.

IMO this ruins the work SAIC had done to appear to be British in design asthetic, a rebadged Korean car won't do Roewe any favours.

It's not really a Korean car, but it does seem strange to have different styles and different grills thoughout the Roewe range.

It just seems a little lazy, surely with a bit more work it could've been made to look closer to the 550, or ape the Rover grille of the 750?

Sticking a Bentley style grill on would have taken just as much effort as a 750 style grill so its not a case of being lazy.
I think it was done for the same reason the the Toyota LS600 has a different grill to the Toyota Avensis, in that case they also use a different brand name but the R95 is for sale in China, not Japan or Europe so the marketing decisions dont necessarily make sense to us.
