MG 5 project running 4 months ahead of schedule

According to information from NAC passenger car project leader Zhao Qing at the Nanjing Pukou factory Phase II project, the MG5 / Roewe 350 (AP11) and the new small engine (NSE) projects are about one third completed and running ahead of schedule by around 4 months, although the launch date is still set for early in 2010. Zhao Qing described the progress of the project following the integration of NAC and SAIC as a miracle! "the whole team maintains a high degree of co-operative spirit and a high degree of a sense of mission, it can only ensure the quality of the project."

There was no mention of AP12, the streetwise version.

Seems like the Roewe N1 that SAIC had at the Shanghai Show is the Roewe equivelent of the MG5 and will become the Roewe 350.

As far as I know it is still there despite this Autocar article:

Roewe N1 will be sold in Europe

SAIC-owned Roewe had one of the smartest new saloons at the Shanghai show with the new N1.

Although it's billed as a concept, Roewe sources indicated that the N1 is virtually identical to an all-new saloon that will go on sale in China next year and is likely to come to Europe soon afterwards.

Based on a new platform, the front drive N1 sits below the 550 and sporty MG6, both originally based on the Rover 75. The N1 will be offered with the company's existing four-cylinder petrol engines which are essentially reworked versions of the Rover K-series engines it also acquired with the purchase of MG Rover.

However, the N1 is unlikely to go on sale with many of the hi-tech electronics featuring on the concept.

Developed by Italian specialists Magnetti Marelli, the show car featured internet connectivity and an open-source sat-nav system which can be linked to third party software, all operated througha touch-screen dash.

Insiders admitted that these were production possible but still several years away from reality.

So that seems to suggest the N1 is based on the 45 platform. Will theere be a hatch version? I'm guessing the MG3 will be next for replacement? Wish we'd seen an MG version at Shanghai.

I think this chassis design is supposed to cover both the MG5 and a new MG3, with the MG5 arriving first.

It's still at the concept stage, almost as much an MG as a Roewe, it was presented as a Roewe because otherwise Roewe had nothing new! What has happened to the big Roewe 95 confused
