    I think what is happening is that we are getting two ranges - "platforms" generally refer to the shared underpinnings where it is crucial to rationalise.

    There are a few countries that have MG6 saloon AND MG550 - wonder how they are differentiated?

    There's no shame in two brands side by side as long as the differences are substantial. A 550 and a 6 together is just weird and I don't think they should be sold as two brands in the same territory - there needs to be a real difference. For example, Austin and Morris or MG and Rover 'twins' were always too close. VW and Audi have the right distance between products on the same platforms.

    Maybe an MG6 with a 550 interior might work, or a reworked 550 wearing different wings/bonnet etc.

    MGs are supposed to be cute, that's the meanest looking MG I've ever seen, ...and I have seen an SV!

    Quite like it though, the styling is distinctive and it does look like a modern MG until you look at the detail which is far from cute!

    For MG enthusiasts who like to climb into their car Very Happy

    Sir Tony?? I hope thats just an over-zealous translation!

    The brand direction is interesting, especially taken in context with Guy Jones' comments, although it gives me more concern really. They basically talk about making aspirational cars - every manufacturer wants to do that. They seem to be losing sight of the fact that MG really WAS aspirational in itself. Jones spoke of emulating Kia or Hyundai - both those manufacturers make interesting cars, but they also make some very hum-drum shopping trolleys too.

    MG was a sports car maker. It is obviously not going to be that any more; it doesn't seem to be any sportier than Kia, Hyundai, or even Ford. All manufacturers make 'bread and butter' cars with some 'halo' editions of each one and it looks like MG is emulating that. I think that could be a mistake. I'm sure they will sell more than they have ever done, and maybe MG will be a global brand like Kia. But it won't be anything like 'MG' as we know it.

    MG was always the offshoot of Morris, Austin or Rover, with those brands bringing the volume and MG supplying the glamour. Maybe, to preserve MG's historic image, they need a brand to place in the mass market again? Or maybe times have changed and they are determined to take the new, broader route. I suppose my real concern is that all the current MGs seem to be 'lukewarm' when compared to even the MGR-era cars. Alloy wheels and half leather seats doesn't automatically make a sports brand.

    Ah well, onwards and upwards.

    The Chinese bosses are almost always known by their full names, it's normally only company names that get shortened so I don't know why they decided to shorten it to Tony, although when your used to using chinese characters "Anthony Williams-Kenny" does take a lot of space, as does "Mr Williams-Kenny" and they probably don't understand the '-'.

    I guess he introduced himself as "Tony".
