News from MG MOTOR UK Ltd - Page 10 Empty Fourth time lucky

Post by richardk Tue Sep 13, 2011 12:41 am

    http://www.mg.co.uk/news-events/latest-news.aspx#/?page=NEWS_TEAMRLRSILVERSTONE2

Team RLR battled to a sensational fifth place finish in the LMP2 class at the 6 Hours of Silverstone today (Saturday, September 11) - despite being forced to change an engine four times in a dramatic build up to the penultimate race of the 2011 Le Mans Series season.

Having started from the pit lane and a lap down on the rest of the field following a last-gasp engine change between warm up and qualifying, a determined drive from Warren Hughes, Barry Gates and Rob Garofall saw the MG Motor UK backed team fight back to claim 14th overall from 48 starters at the home of British motor racing.

The Lancashire-based outfit had arrived at the Northamptonshire circuit after a promising close season, believing the MG Lola EX265 was in top condition and a strong result was within its grasp.

However, after completing Friday’s opening practice sessions a major issue with what was a brand-new engine was detected, and another new unit had to be installed late in the evening.

Saturday also saw the team complete morning practice without incident, but the afternoon’s qualifying session was disrupted by a misfire that meant not only did the squad fail to record a time but incredibly another new engine had to be fitted by the tireless pit crew in the Team RLR garage.

Having spent the two previous evenings working into the small hours the team was stunned to have a third engine fail in the race warm up, and had to set about replacing it with less than two hours to the green flag and race start.

Nick Reynolds’ crew rose to the challenge and managed to fit what was the fourth engine of the weekend in record time, allowing driver Warren Hughes to join the race albeit from the pit lane.

Hughes was only just getting into his stride after a few laps however when he was shown the black and orange flag by the marshals and forced to return to the pits to check on an oil leak. What turned out to be a relatively minor issue saw the MG Lola EX265 return to the fray quickly, but having lost another few laps to the team’s LMP2 class rivals. The experienced endurance racer pushed hard to make up the lost time, so much so he blistered his hands on the steering wheel, before handing over to Barry Gates two hours in.

Gates continued the consistent form he has displayed all season and made good headway through congested traffic in the race’s middle section, and despite a small spin quickly recovered, enjoyed a largely trouble-free run to steer the MG Lola EX265 into sixth in class and 16th overall.

The comeback was well and truly on for Team RLR as Rob Garofall took over from team-mate Gates. With engine number four performing well the former Silverstone instructor took advantage of a slip from a rival car to take fifth in class and 15th overall.

However, a heart-stopping moment ensued when what at first seemed to be a puncture resulted in the front right wheel detaching and he was forced to nurse the MG Lola EX265 back to the pits.

That unnerving incident cost him one place, but the Leighton Buzzard resident fought back with a series of quick times to regain it and then open up a gap big enough to ease through the final half hour and secure an outstanding comeback after 171 hard fought laps for the determined Team RLR.

The squad’s attention will now focus on ending the 2011 le Mans Series season on a high at the final round, which will take place at the Estoril circuit, Portugal, on September 23-25.

Nick Reynolds, Team RLR team principal, said:
“I just want to thank all the boys in the garage for working their socks off this weekend, they have put in an amazing amount of hard graft.  I genuinely don’t think any other team could have done what they did and changed an engine between the warm up and the race and put out a car that not only went the distance, but pulled off a great result. I think we were hard done to with the pit lights not letting Warren out at the right time at the start and a couple of other incidents, but really pleased to get to the end and delighted with the effort of the whole team. With three engine changes this weekend the boys have only had about nine hours sleep over last four days, so what they’ve achieved is phenomenal really. It’s not long until the next race so we’ll have a very hard look at what the issue with the engines was and come up with a plan for the final round in Estoril.”

Warren Hughes, Team RLR driver, said:
“It’s been an incredible effort by the team to achieve this result. I’ve never experienced anything like the engine problems we’ve had at this race in 20 years of racing. To use four in one weekend is unheard of really and unbelievable bad luck, so to come through that and get fifth is a superb result. The guys in the garage have just put in a huge amount of effort, so to come back from effectively three laps down just makes it that more amazing. It just shows you should never give up in endurance racing and it seems ingrained in this team, it’s a fantastic attitude to have and to be working with them.  It would be nice to go to Estoril now and have a trouble free weekend and see what we can do.”

Barry Gates, Team RLR driver, said:
“To finish fifth in our class from where we started is fantastic. Not only did we have to start from the pit lane, but also a further lap behind the rest of the field. Then we were called in after three laps for an oil leak check which cost us another lap, and we lost a wheel near the end which forced another pit stop on us. Apart from that it was a really good run!  We were aiming for a podium but to come fifth even after all those dramas is a strong performance. We’re still aiming higher though, we just need a trouble free weekend.”

Rob Garofall, Team RLR driver, said:
“When you go through what we have this weekend and then get back into the garage after driving the final few hours it’s actually hard to believe we managed to finish fifth in our class. We had a whole season’s worth of problems in one day and still came away with a decent result. For the drivers it’s satisfying but this is really a testament to the team and their effort totally deserved it. There would have been no justice if they didn’t get a reward for the amount of sheer hard work they have put in this weekend in our garage.  Late in the race I hit the brakes going into a corner and the front right locked up and there was a bit of smoke, so I thought I had a puncture. I was cruising back to pits when suddenly I saw a wheel roll off into the distance, I didn’t realise it was mine at first!  Silverstone is such a fast track it was very hard mentally and physically in the closing stages, but I’m just really pleased for the team that we made it to the end, full credit goes to them.”

News from MG MOTOR UK Ltd - Page 10 Empty Castrol joins MG race dream team

Post by richardk Mon Mar 19, 2012 10:52 am

    Press Release

Castrol joins MG race dream team

Castrol has joined the MG KX Momentum Racing team as a partner
sponsor as today the car was unveiled for the first time in full race livery.
The announcement was made at a Media Day held at the Silverstone circuit.
The news comes just days after MG Motor UK and Castrol established a new
    partnership.
Castrol’s involvement compliments the ‘dream team’ of drivers, constructors
and sponsors set to challenge for the 2012 Dunlop MSA BTCC championship.
Two MG6 GT cars will run in the all-new MG KX Momentum Racing team
with double BTCC champion Jason Plato and rising star Andy Neate behind
the wheels. The first race in the 10 round series is at Brands Hatch on April 1.
The MG6 GT five-door fastback is the first all-new MG in 16 years. It is

    assembly also takes place.
Plato said he was delighted that Castrol, another great name in the automotive

Touring Cars as well as being a well-known and respected TV presenter and
newly appointed Director of the British Racing Drivers Club.

Castrol’s involvement cements an historic link with the MG brand. Sir George

Guy Jones, MG Motor’s Sales & Marketing Director, said: “The feedback to
MG going racing again has been incredible and there’s a real passion and pride
building around the team. It’s going to be a great season.”

    Press Release:

    March 22 2012

MG Motor UK appoints GMAC UK for Wholesale Financing

Birmingham, UK (March 22, 2012) – MG Motor UK today announced
that it had appointed GMAC UK plc, a subsidiary of Ally Financial Inc.,
as its preferred wholesale financing provider for dealerships.

This expands on the existing preferred retail financing relationship
between the two companies established last year.

Guy Jones, Sales and Marketing Director of MG Motor UK, said: “We
chose GMAC as our preferred provider for wholesale and retail financing
following a rigorous selection process. GMAC has demonstrated its
leadership in the market with attractive financing offerings and high
levels of service. The relationship with GMAC will be very beneficial as
we seek to broaden our product line and increase sales in the UK.”

Ed Paulat, GMAC UK Managing Director, said: “Following a successful
initial cooperation for retail financing, it is a logical step to add a
competitive wholesale financing programme for MG dealers. We are a
full-service provider and see the potential as the MG brand expands in
    the UK market."

MG dealers may obtain wholesale financing from GMAC for new,
demonstrator and used vehicle inventory. The GMAC sales team
is making contact with dealers to introduce the wholesale financing
    programme.

GMAC UK became the preferred retail finance provider for MG Motor
customers in October 2011. It is also the preferred finance provider for
Vauxhall, Chevrolet and SsangYong Motors UK.

Last month, GMAC was recognized as the “Best Auto Finance
Company 2012” by the Institute for Transport Management, based on
an independent pan-European survey of manufacturers, dealers and
    customers.

News from MG MOTOR UK Ltd - Page 10 Empty MG KX MOMENTUM RACING SET FOR BTCC DEBUT

Post by richardk Thu Mar 29, 2012 9:23 am

    Press Release:

MG KX MOMENTUM RACING SET FOR BTCC DEBUT

    Media Information: 28thMarch 2012

The MG KX Momentum Racing Team is set for their debut race weekend at the world famous Brands Hatch circuit this weekend (31stMarch & 1stApril) for the opening three rounds of the 2012 Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship (BTCC).

The BTCC’s most successful driver (in terms of race wins, 68 to date) and double BTCC champion Jason Plato, will lead the MG challenge for the British brand; their first season back in Britain’s premier Motorsport series as a Manufacturer entry since 2003. Jason will be joined by rising star Andy Neate in the new MG6, having joined from the Ford squad he raced for in 2011.

It has been a huge challenge for Triple Eight Race Engineering to build and prepare the two brand new NGTC specification MG6 GT’s in time for this weekend’s curtain raiser, since the announcement surrounding the British marque’s return to the series was made just nine weeks (64 days) ago.
The KX Energy drink and Tesco Momentum99 premium fuel backed squad head into the season opener having completed extremely limited test running. The car took to the track for the first time last week, to complete just a handful of tentative laps at the BTCC’s Media Day at Silverstone, in the experienced hands of Plato.
Despite the team’s late start, they head to the short 1.22 mile Brands Hatch Indy Circuit optimistic for the season ahead, keen to see the potential of the new car and get some much needed mileage under the new MG6’s belt.

Jason Plato, MG KX Momentum Racing #99:
“I’m incredibly excited about this weekend, the first in the new 2012 season. The car looks absolutely amazing and Triple Eight deserve a lot of credit for pulling all the stops out. This weekend is all about getting to grips with this NGTC car and realising its potential and the Indy Circuit is one I’ve had great success at so I genuinely can’t wait.”

Andy Neate, MG KX Momentum Racing #44:
“It will be fantastic to get to Brands Hatch and get the season underway, I’m so excited and really can’t wait to see what the MG6 is capable of. It’s been great seeing the car come together over the last few weeks and all credit to Triple Eight for getting us ready against such tight timelines.“

Ian Harrison, MG KX Momentum Racing Team Principal:
“The whole team has worked extremely hard to be ready for this opening race weekend. It has been tough for the crew, but they have risen brilliantly to the challenge as they always have done. It will be a proud moment for everyone at Triple Eight when the cars role out of the garage for First Practice on Saturday. However, this is the first step and inside the Triple Eight team we are realistic about what is possible, although we have clear objectives for these first few race weekends.”

News from MG MOTOR UK Ltd - Page 10 Empty Sky’s the limit for MG Motor deal

Post by richardk Wed Apr 04, 2012 6:03 am

    Press Release:

    April 3 2012

Sky’s the limit for MG Motor deal

MG Motor has landed a fleet deal from Birmingham Airport for the award-winning MG6 GT.

It’s the first local fleet deal to be won by the MG Birmingham Sales Centre which opened at the MG factory site in September.

The five GTs, all in SE trim, will be used as management cars and will be regularly seen at the huge regional airport which is used by more than 8.5 million passengers every year.

MG6 models are designed and engineered at MG Birmingham where final assembly of the cars is also carried out. More than 400 people work at MG Birmingham.

Joe Kelly, Deputy CEO of Birmingham Airport, said: “We’ve been impressed with the MG6. It’s a great car to drive and offers excellent value for money. The fact that it comes off an assembly line at a factory just a few miles away from us is a bonus.”

The cars, two in Union Blue, two in Pitch Black and a Granite Grey model, were handed over to the airport on Friday.

Gary Egan, who heads the MG Birmingham Sales Centre, said: “We’re delighted to be supplying cars to such a prestigious customer as Birmingham Airport.

“We’re generating more and more interest in the MG6 but our first fleet order is quite a milestone on top of our recent successes with retail customers.”

The MG6 recently won the What Car? 2012 Security Award. Two racing versions of the MG6 GT are competing in the 2012 Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship with double champion Jason Plato and rising race star Andy Neate behind the wheels.

In the first three races at Brands Hatch at the weekend, Jason Plato was 4th in race one, 3rd in the second race and 1st in the exciting final race to emerge as the championship leader. The next race is at Donington Park on April 15.

News from MG MOTOR UK Ltd - Page 10 Empty MG joins Motability Car Scheme

Post by richardk Wed Apr 04, 2012 6:04 am

    Press Release

    April 3 2012

    MG joins Motability Car Scheme

Thousands of people throughout Britain will qualify to drive the new MG6 models under the Motability Car Scheme for disabled people.

MG dealers across the country are set to offer the award-winning MG6 GT when they join the Motability network from April 3.

Motability allows people who receive certain disability allowances to lease a new car. Nearly 600,000 people currently use the Scheme.*

It allows disabled people who qualify to lease a new car every three years and the package includes insurance, servicing and maintenance, full RAC breakdown assistance and annual car tax. Even non-drivers are eligible and are able to nominate a driver, providing they live within five miles of them, under Motability’s guidelines.

Andrew Lowerson, MG Motor UK’s Product Manager, said: “The MG6 is particularly suited to many Motability users because it has an extremely roomy cabin and the boot capacity is class-leading. It’s also a car that’s easy to drive and has a host of extras as standard so the value for money is outstanding.

“Our dealers who have signed up to the Motability network will be able to guide people through the scheme and show them the MG6 models in great detail.”

Mike Betts, chief executive, Motability Operations, said: “It’s always great news when a manufacturer joins the Motability Scheme as it adds to the wide range of affordable choices available for our customers.

“We welcome MG Motor to the Scheme and look forward to working together.”

    * Anyone who receives the Higher Rate Mobility Component of the Disability Living Allowance or the War Pensioners’ Mobility Supplement, can exchange this weekly payment for a new car through Motability.

Fantastic! It's a nice big car (LOADS of overhead room) and the driver sits quite high up which will help with getting in and out.

News from MG MOTOR UK Ltd - Page 10 Empty MG6 just gets better!

Post by richardk Wed Apr 11, 2012 8:35 am

    Press release:

    April 11 2012

    MG6 just gets better!

Improved production methods have paid dividends for customers of the award-winning MG6 who will now get better fuel economy, reduced CO2 emissions and pay lower road tax.

And as an added bonus the on-the-road price of all MG6 GT and MG6 Magnette models have been reduced thanks to the new systems.

Many of the production advances have been made at MG Motor UK’s factory in Birmingham where final assembly and quality sign-off of the MG6 range is carried out. The cars are designed and engineered by 300 professionals at two centres of excellence at the MG Birmingham site.

The latest 2012 model year cars see C02 figures drop from 184g/km to 174g/km which reduces the Vehicle Excise Duty by one band. This saves £50 on the first year’s road tax and £20 a year after that.

Fuel economy improves with the urban cycle increasing from 26.1mpg to 27.7mpg (+1.6mpg). The extra urban cycle increases from 45.2mpg to 48.7mpg (+3.5mpg) while the combined figure increases from 35.6mpg to 37.7mpg (+2.1mpg).

The improved VED figures mean that the recommended-on-the-road prices for all MG6 models are reduced by £40. Entry to MG6 ownership now starts from £15,455 for an MG6 GT fastback in S model trim.

On-the-road prices for MG6 GT models in SE trim are reduced from £16,995 to £16,955 and the TSE trim model comes down from £18,995 to £18,955 due to the changes. The price of the flagship MG6 Magnette model is reduced from £19,995 to £19,955.

Guy Jones, Sales and Marketing Director at MG Motor UK said: “This is yet more good news from MG. It comes on top of a fantastic debut by Jason Plato and Andy Neate in racing versions of the MG6 at the Brands Hatch opening races of the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship.

“Jason stormed to victory in the third race and now heads the championship points board as we head to the next round at Donington on April 15.

“We scooped the What Car? 2012 Security Award at the start of the year and we are expanding our dealer network all the time so things are really going well for us. But most importantly, people are now realising what a great value for money package the MG6 is as well as being a fantastic car to drive.”

News from MG MOTOR UK Ltd - Page 10 Empty Zero per cent finance offer from MG

Post by richardk Wed Apr 11, 2012 8:36 am

    Press Release:

    April 11 2012

Zero per cent finance offer from MG

MG dealers are now offering zero per cent finance on entry level MG6 models with no nasty final balloon payments!

The new finance package is one of the most flexible on the market, giving lots of options to customers who want to get behind the wheel of the award-winning MG6.

Under the MG finance scheme on MG6 GT models in S trim, customers can select the amount of deposit they wish to make, as long as it is a minimum of 40 per cent of the £15,455 on-the-road price.

So a customer who opts to put 50 per cent of the OTR price down as a deposit would pay as little as £128.79 in monthly payments over 60 months. Customers can also repay the balance on any of the deals early with no penalty clauses.

Alongside the zero per cent deals on S-trim MG6 GT models, there is a 3.7 per cent APR scheme available on all MG6 GT and MG6 Magnette models with a 10 per cent deposit and payments from £249 spread over 60 months.

This means that a customer pays a deposit of £1,544.50 on an MG6 GT model in S trim with solid paint. Higher deposits lower the monthly repayment terms. Again, there is no balloon payment at the end of the term and the customer owns the car outright.

Guy Jones, MG Motor UK’s Sales and marketing Director, said: “These are outstandingly good deals with a great degree of flexibility so that customers can get a finance package that suits them best.

“The MG6 range is already outstanding value for money, with low insurance group ratings and class-leading levels of standard specification. So the finance deals are really the icing on the cake.”

    Ends.
