MG CS and MG5 Magnette for 2014... Empty MG CS and MG5 Magnette for 2014...

Why is the MG5 Magnette taking so long when they already have a saloon version of the body shell?   Maybe they are modifying suspension, engine etc. to UK standard?

MG next year will push two new models including SUV and sedan

According to the latest news of SAIC, its own brand MG will launch two new models next year, namely a SUV and a new sedan models.  AS21 an SUV which was codenamed Shanghai Motor Show starting before the MG CS SUV concept car production version, while the other one is codenamed AP13 is using the same platform with the MG5 sedan models.

According to information before the exposure point of view, MG CS SUV concept car production version in the configuration is relatively rich: the new car will be equipped with dual-speed electronically controlled splitter boxes, limited-slip center differential, air suspension, four-wheel electronic traction control system, Dynamic Stability Control (DSC), ramp Assist (HSA), front and rear independent suspension.

The Power, the new car will be powered by the 2.0T engine, the maximum power of 150kW (203Ps), maximum torque of 280Nm ,0-100km / h acceleration time of 7.8 seconds, top speed can reach 220km / h.

While a code AP13 new sedan will be based on AP platform and launched in 2014.  Interestingly, before the launch of MG5 MG codenamed AP12, the same as the AP platform, so we expect the new car is probably MG5 sedan version of the model.

For MG, this new SUV, everyone is still relatively high degree of expectation.  While a sedan, but also to make up for their lack of models in the compact class.

You say 'UK standard' with regards to the 5, but that would mean a decision has been made to bring it here, by which time it would be 4 years old so surely it would mean a very much more thorough going over?

As for the CS - I still don't understand why they develop a Chinese version and then do a European version. Why do the Chinese get a 'lower spec/quality' car, why not build them all to the highest standards in the first place? If they must do this, why not develop two market's models simultaneously? They will continually attract criticism from nay-sayers in the EU if the EU cars are late/have to be reworked from lower spec cars.

Even for the Chinese market it will be facelift time for the five, it's unlikely that they will stick the same front on it and will need something else new as in the new Roewe 550 which has been well received due to it's new transmission as well as the facelift.

As for the CS, who says they are developing two separate versions? Launching it simultaneously doesn't make total sense, if something goes wrong then it would need a recall in both markets, better to test it for a while in one first but they do intend to launch it in the UK not long after China so I'm sure they are working on both models at the same time.

It's in idea - launch in one market to sort out teething troubles, but that's not the same as launching with a cheaper interior to see what they can get away with, then revising it for the EU.

Thing is, EU cars are popular in China so surely that's a signal that Chinese consumers actually do want the European specification? OK so seats may differ, but for example, do Audi do different suspension settings for cars exported to China and different dashboard materials?

They play on the British aspect of MG to market to the Chinese, but when the Chinese get in the cars they don't get the same quality as the British - they get a 'Chinese' car. If they aren't careful they will dilute the perception of 'British MG' that they have been pushing and end up turning off not only the EU but the Chinese customer base too.

They should focus on the best quality at all stages for all markets. Within cost boundaries of course...

Audi add extra rear legroom and actually make the cars longer for Chinese sale! And yes dashboards are different, what the British like is not necessarily liked by the Chinese, for example the Roewe 350 vastly outsells the MG5 largely because it has a boot, in the UK it would be the other way around, same goes for styling and even the type of leather used on the leather seats.
