It's only at the concept stage so far, but designed to be manufactured in China and assembled in the UK.

In order to further highlight the classic style of England, the MG RV8 concept car design has been inspired by the "Spitfire" fighter aircraft.

The new design concept is the work of a "professional graduate student".

and not the "Spitfire" beer? Laughing

I'd have thought sales in Germany must be crucial to the success of a niche car like this, so I'd keep quiet about Spitfires myself.

Or is Japan enough? (IIRC where most of the RV8s went) Despite having been in the Axis, the Japanese seem to value English tradition greatly - and whereas my cultured German friends do too, their admiration always stopped short of knowingly buying a British-made piece of technical equipment...

Is there a Transformer that's a fighter plane? I could imagine it turning into this for a bit of a rest...

It always supprises me how many minis owned by Germans can be seen parked in BMW staff car parks!
Not only do they buy the British-made cars but they also bought the brand!

of course, in the B*W era, the "Roovers" counted as B*Ws for the employee cheapo car purchase scheme (followed by sale after a year).

In those days, cars like an oak green 400 saloon or a peacock blue 400 hatch became a little more common in Munich. Those cars are gone now even before scrappage.

The wedge 200/400 (counted as one model) even made it to position 55, the very bottom of the published sales charts, one month!

B*W has always marketed the MINI as 100% B*W throughout though with a tiny dash of character. It shows what could be achieved by British engineering...and it must be a point of reference for SAIC...

But imagine that the police now drive round Adolf Hitler's adopted home town in British-made cars - not even German-made Dixis ("Austin Sevens")...

Wow - is that photo real? You wouldn't get the British Police driving around in a car as British as that Shocked

When I got a lift with one of those mini driving German BMW staff, the main reason for choosing it appeared to be that it was not German! Although we were in a German speaking part of the world which seems to prefer USA culture to German culture. Parked next to the mini was a Dodge Ram, something that makes the BMW mini actually look small!

Wrong mini, but you get the idea:

Is that a machine gun on the LHS of the bonnet?

Saw a real RV8 last week running around Norwich - very cute!

I suspect the sketch might be tamed down???

Yes, unlike the real spitfire, there is no propeller so the machine guns don't need to be on the wings to avoid shooting the propeller off!

"Tamed down" a bit like the "student project" that is the Morgan Aeromax?

Interesting bit of fantasy that - talking about the car being born at a 'Morris Garage' in the UK. I wonder if the copyright holder will object?

Mr Rodriguez object to the free advertising of his skills?
I'm sure that was the objective of him releasing the images...
I've provided a link to the Chinese site which I believe is all that was required and the only thing we have from the British site, dizeno-art, is Mr Rodriguez's image which has his copyright notice at the bottom.

Sorry, I meant the trademark holder, as in Morris. Is that with BMW now?

No, the trademark is held by NAC:

So it would be possible, but it's is only an idea that this designer had, a very long way from being a plan!

Oi zay thaat be an interrestinn UuuuKay-woid networrrk uf garriges: Devon, Glarsterr and Darzet!

    Oh and London and Leeds.

Suggests Taunton and Exeter are near the centre of things!

Where's our map?* How many MG dealers are there near any of these places now? (There's none in London).

I thought the very idea of transporting Bodies in White from China was actually rather costly - are they doing it for the TF 135?

*Have MG made their own? http://www.mgmotor.co.uk/ask-mg/dealer-locator/ I see one in Budleigh Salterton, one in Wickwar and one in Christchurch (Greater Dorset). These dealers aren't engineering shops, though!

Well Exeter has two MG garages within 10 miles, I passed one about two weeks ago and it had a selection of TF LE500s in Red, Black & Blue! The blue had silver grill mesh, the black black grill mesh. I'm fairly certain they don't have the facilities to properly turn a body in white into a coloured body though!
