The Shanghai Automotive Transmission Co. will be unveiling their new transmission at this years Shanghai Auto Show. (see April calendar).

The prototype transmission will be fitted to a Roewe 750 and consists of a dual clutch arrangment to replace the current, slightly low technology 5 speed auto box from Asin in Japan, one of the 750's week points.

The Shanghai Automotive Transmission Co. are building a new factory this year located on the Dalin Development Zone and expected to be completed in 2011. Given the speed at which the Chinese build factories the timescale suggests that it will be quite large! The new transmission is expected to enter production in the second half of 2010 fitted initially to the Roewe 750 followed by the Roewe 550, presumably the MG 6 and later by many other models.

The transmission has been developed by the BorgWarner dual-clutch Transmission System Co. Ltd, a joint venture between the BorgWarner China Investment Corporation and over 10 domestic enterprises. SAIC and BorgWarner started their technical cooperation on a dual-clutch transmission for the Roewe 750 back in October 2006 with BorgWarner Inc. responsible for the development and the Shanghai Automotive Transmission Co. Ltd. for manufacture and final assembly.
