Limited options in the UK? Empty Limited options in the UK?

Post by Tee in China Tue May 17, 2011 10:53 pm

Here in the PRC we get the 6 in both saloon and hatch with a choice of turbo or non turbo autos or manuals but I see that in the UK only the hatch in 3 trim levels and manual only.

Do they not think people will buy a non turbo or auto or even a saloon version then? or even a non turbo auto saloon?

Do you guys only get the dark trim too?

There are plans for the other models and versions to come out, just not straight away. For instance, the saloon is due to be released in mid July, which is only a couple of months away.

It's just a simple matter of logistics as the cars have to be shipped over.

There are 3 trim levels with 7 different colours, which means that there are 21 different combinations available at the moment.

I think they just wanted to start with one model that would get good reviews, then when it has been shown to sell OK they will introduce more.

If the press had got hold of a non-turbo to test then they would have described it as under-powered for an MG, even though it is a good engine. If they had got hold of an auto then the current Asin auto box would not have got good reviews in the UK, better to wait for the new SAIC auto box. and the UK doesn't buy light coloured interiors, they are just not in fashion at the moment.

Thats all well and good, but what if the following models get less favourable reviews? That could mean they hit a brick wall. I think that whatever models they bring out next have to be at least as good in their own way as the MG6 GT, though preferably they'll get progressively better. They've set a standard now that they must keep. Personally though, I think they'll achieve their aim. Smile

Well I don't see any harm in bringing out a lower powered, more fuel efficient model for those that want it now that the press have done their reviews. The second model will be the saloon still with a 1.8T so that should be just as good. The reviews of the MG3 will be interesting.

I doubt there will ever be a lower powered version of the MG6 over here.

When I spoke to a Longbridge chap I asked if the new 1.5T would be dropped into the 6 at some point as I thought it might offer a similar performance but with a lower Co2 and the answer was no.
