MG arrives in Nigeria

Coscharis Motors has introduced the All New Morris Garages (MG) Series of luxury cars into the Nigerian auto market as it brings back to memory the works of William Morris, founder of the British automobile industry, who launched the world’s first 4-door car with central chassis in 1924, thus charting the legendary course of MG.

Speaking at the media launch of the All New MG Series last weekend in Lagos , Executive Director, Sales and After Sales, Coscharis Motors, Mr. Raju Sawlani, said “The fact remains that 87 years can be a long chronicle, but it still cannot cover the connotation of MG brand, which can be summarised into the brand’s core value, namely, Character, Charisma and Creativity which underlies MG's band commitment “Make the difference.”

While giving assurance on the ruggedness of the cars for the Nigerian roads, Sawlani said : “The company behind MG is Coscharis. We cannot afford to toy with the reputation we’ve built over the years. From the brands we’ve handled so far, our credibility speaks for us.

“We didn’t just jump into Chinese brands, we put so many things into consideration. We went for brands that would not disappoint us and won’t touch a brand that won’t give warranty to our customers. We are putting the same passion as we’ve done with our premium brands and we can’t afford to disappoint our customers.”

Group General Manager, MG Eko Ventures, Mr. Ekpenyong Duke, also described the new MG brand as “the newest baby” in the Coscharis family. “We’ve never had anything like these before now. It is the newest baby in the Coscharis family. These vehicles are price-friendly, highly durable and very reliable,” he said at the occasion which held at MG showroom in Victoria Island, Lagos.

Divisional General Manager, MG & Commercial Vehicles, Mrs Helyn Osandu-Alecheneu, in her presentation, said the MG comes in six brands and are categorised into the large, small and medium classes. She listed the brands to include MG 750, MG 550, MG 350, MG 6 and the latest MG 3, which looks exactly like a Jaguar car.

She disclosed that Coscharis Motors has the sole franchise for the MG brands in Nigeria, noting that though the MG Series are manufactured in China by Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation (SAIC Motors) from which Coscharis got its franchise, they still maintain the same quality control and standards as those manufactured in the United Kingdom.

SAIC Motors, she noted, is the leading manufacturer of passenger vehicles, the largest mini-vehicle maker as well as an automotive maker that has the biggest sales volume in China today. She added that the Chinese auto manufacturer

“is not just equipped with the most cutting edge R & D equipment, but also integrates with the expertise of many industry specialists, putting UK designs into car making practice.”

On the preparedness of Coscharis to push the MG brands in the Nigerian market, Osandu-Alecheneu said “Our Ikeja facility and that of Lekki are part of the ways of showing our preparedness.” She disclosed that Coscharis already has on ground 15 Chinese engineers to impart knowledge on local technicians, adding “we have facilities in Uyo,Enugu,Abuja and Kano with a quick service centre on Sanusi Fafunwa street, Victoria Island,Lagos, all stocked with spare parts as we are in this business for a long haul.”
