SAIC-GM Joint Venture Developing Three-Cylinder Turbo Engines

GM’s China joint venture with SAIC will spawn three new turbocharged petrol engines, for use in a very wide array of new cars. These consist of 1.2-, 1.4- and 1.5-liter units, all of which feature turbocharging.

According to shou.com, these engines will be used in cars like the new Opel Adam, Chevrolet Cruze and Aveo, Roewe 350 and MG3. They will be produced in an all-new factory being built in Shenyang, in the Liaoning Province and it will churn out engines at a rate of 450,000 per year, with production slated to start towards the end of 2013.

GM is really getting into its strides as a truly global manufacturer, as the Opel Adam, for instance is a European car, built with American funds, powered by a Chinese developed and built engine - these are odd times we are experiencing.

The Shanghai-GM joint venture is working on a new engine-family, which will (politically correct) consist of three engines. All are turbocharged direct injection three-cylinders with displacement of 1.2, 1.4 and 1.5 liter. The new engines will power many cars within Shanghai-GM and within GM wordlwide, among which the new Opel Adam which was officially launched yesterday.

Need to find the original to see what it really said!
