Volkswagen has been concentrating on going ever further upmarket. Now it is planning a new brand based on the Chinese Jetta (€9200) to sell for €7500-8000.
German wages cost €30.10/hour. Rumanian (e.g. Dacia) €4.50.
The new VW group car will be a new brand. It will have far fewer steps to press it out and the underside will be several pieces, not one. The engine will come from FAW.
There will be three models initially, then five.
Meanwhile, Dacia is building a 400,000 unit capacity factory in Tangiers to make cheap,small cars.
