I'm sure the press release will be along soon ... although MG UK haven't even done a press release on MG90 yet!Magnette wrote:What was that rolled out at Longbridge for?? Chinese badging, Morris Garages plates - was this for Chinese media/launch pics?
I like it, didn't like that rear light bar on the prototype camo images but it looks good in real life. Just need a hatchback version and I would want one...

It needs bigger wheels I think - they look a little lost in the arches (not helped by being on an uneven surface).
But overall it's good. I suppose these are photos for China to emphasis the British connection.

I guess they are 16" wheels, or are they 17"?Magnette wrote:It needs bigger wheels I think - they look a little lost in the arches (not helped by being on an uneven surface).

From a performance point of view they are probably already too big! Bigger wheels are always heavier.

It is to go on sale in September in China and will be available either with the current MG5 NASP engine or a new 1.4L direct injection turbocharged engine with 6-speed dual-clutch transmission.
Also appears to have independent rear suspension (Edit: only semi-independent, depending on what you are reading.)

I notice it definitely isn't the MG5GT, even though it is! Is the Magnette version coming any time soon?

What do you mean by Magnette version?Magnette wrote:I notice it definitely isn't the MG5GT, even though it is! Is the Magnette version coming any time soon?
This has a boot doesn't it? I can't see why they would have another booted MG5 based car other than the Roewe 350...
I assume that when it comes to launch, they will call it the MG5 GT since there is an MG6 GT already so it would be confusing if they leave the 5 off... The missing 5 currently will be so that the press have to compare it with successful historical cars like the MGB GT instead of with the not so successful MG5 hatch.

Haven't they shown photos of an MG5 saloon? Is THIS a saloon? This looks like a hatchback - it's the same profile as the MG6GT so I assumed it has a lifting tailgate. Why else would they call it the GT?

Sorry, I can't work out how to do pics, but the grey car on this link: http://www.ilovemg.org/?p=1332
Was this grey car a media guess?
The white car on show at Longbridge has an extra quarterlight behind the rear door into the rear pillar just like the MG6 GT hatchback. I assumed they have chosen GT as shorthand for hatchback as a nod to the MGB GT, and Magnette as shorthand for saloon, as in the BMC era saloons.

Is, I think, a computer generated image from SAIC which has since evolved into the "MG GT" following a decision to separate the MG and Roewe brands with distinct models rather than just rebadged versions of the same models.
I believe the "MG GT" we see today has a boot and will go on sale alongside the MG5 hatchback in China in September.
I do agree that the "GT" being used on this and the MG6 fastback is a bit confusing! But it presumably stands for Grand Tourer which doesn't specify the shape, otherwise you could argue that it should be a big estate car, or go with Wikipedia:
A grand tourer (Italian: gran turismo) (GT) is a performance or luxury automobile capable of high speed or spirited long-distance driving. The most common format is a two-door coupé with either a two-seat or a 2+2 arrangement.

Interesting - you can't see the boot from the front quarter view:
It's going to have good aerodynamics, good mpg:
Looks like standard MG5 suspension from this view:
Not allowed inside, but it looks quite smart:

I assumed they were making that grey MG5 saloon in order to firmly split MG from Roewe, and then they'd drop the MG350 as that's a cross-breed.
Until they show that MG GT with it's boot open, I won't believe it's a saloon!

Well it's got no rear wiper...rantell wrote:it is quite plainly a saloon
As none of the press seem to have been allowed to open the doors etc, I guess it's possible they have all made a mistake in describing it as a saloon?
I think those are the taxi fleet to bring the press across the road from the factory to the park.rantell wrote:looks like they got the rest of the range out for a photo too anybody got any closeups

Looking at the one picture with the 3 cars in the distance, could that be a facelift 6 next to the current model 6 ?

Fantastic pics of the new GT there - may we use a couple of them in the next edition of our online e-zine MG Exe please? Too new here to post a link to the latest edition, but search the website calameo dot com for stuff published by Howard Andrew and you should get there.
Obviously we'll give full credit to the photographer and link back!
