Morris Garages' fastback set to roll out on Nepali roads

KATHMANDU: The automobile brand of British origin lately acquired by the Chinese government — Morris Garages (MG) — is set to debut in Nepal within a week. Dragon Motors (DM), also the authorised distributor of Great Wall Motors, has acquired dealership of the four-wheeler brand for the Nepali market and is planning to officially launch MG6 fastback by this week and MG6 sedan version within two months.

“There is a niche market for the products of this brand, as its cars fall under the high-end segment,” said Ramindra Maharjan, senior manager of DM at Balkumari, adding that the car is chiefly targeted at the elite group of customers. “We are quite hopeful about the future of MG cars in the Nepali market,” he said, revealing that they aim to sell around 15 units of the car in the first year.

According to him, the fastback will be available at price range of Rs 4.1 million to Rs 4.7 million and will compete with Toyota Corolla and Skoda Laura in the domestic market.

The MG6 is a mid-size car under the MG marque, built by Chinese carmaker SAIC Motor, derived from the Roewe 550 and hence distantly related to the Rover 75, sharing its front subframe. Equipped with a powerful 1.8L petro engine, this fastback ensures a thrilling as well as pleasant drive at once. This five-door car acquires an appealing look with its stylish design. The five-seater also offers a very roomy interior with impressive interior design. The car has earned Euro five standard on emission rating. The mid-sized car is equipped with both front and rear air bags, while it includes both ABS and EBD braking systems.

When it comes to safety, the side intrusion beams at both front and rear door ensure

that passengers are safe and sound. Moreover, perimetric alarm system, immobilisation system, front and rear fog lamp, high mounted stop lamp, rear parking aid, rear view camera, driver’s airbag, passenger airbag and side airbags also work as safety

features. Heated rear windscreen, front halogen headlamp (lights on warning), side indicator, automatic headlights and body colour electronic outer view mirror (with heating, powerfold, side indicators) are some of the exterior features of the car. Front and rear body colour bumper, body colour door handles, one large stainless steel trim over twin tail pipes, rain sensing wipers and alloy wheels are other exterior features which give the car a very stylish look.

Auto dipping inner rear view mirror, 4-spoke UPVC steering wheel (subject to styling), fabric sports seat and full leather sports seat (subject to styling) not merely ensure comfort but also impart dashing looks to the car. The driver’s six-way manual seat and front passenger’s four-way manual and electric seat are some of the interior features. Other additions include heated front seats, front and rear door sill finishers, MG branded driver’s and front passenger’s sun visors with illuminated mirror, glove box with latch and lamp, ambient lighting, rear seat with three-point centre seat belt as well as electric windows with one-shot up and down operation.

Tilt and telescopic steering column adjustment, cruise control, one press engine start button and electric control air-conditioning, automatic electric control dual-zone air conditioning, are other in-built features which ensure comfort of the driver and passengers alike. Radio, RDS, CD, MP3, USB, monochrome display and Bluethooth add more luxury and class to the car.
