Shocked This is not sustainable Exclamation

In December, the Shanghai Automotive passenger car sales of 25,107 vehicles and 16,888 vehicles in December 2011, an increase of 48.67%; production of 20,188 vehicles to 11,679 vehicles in December 2011, year-on-year growth of 72.86%.

Reached the target though - just Laughing

Last year, the Shanghai Automotive passenger car sales to 200,017 vehicles worth 20 billion yuan (US$3.21 billion), an increase from 162,004 vehicles in 2011, an increase of 23.46%; production of 195,675 vehicles from 157,206 vehicles in 2011, a year-on-year growth of 24.47%.

They've sold more cars than they've produced both years - 4,798 in 2011 and 4,342 in 2012. They must have begun 2011 with a stock of unsold cars which is now 9,140 lower. To meet customer demand, their stock of cars should have risen by about a quarter!

They were on target for a break even until December when they sold 5000 cars too many!

Mind you, since the start of 2011 the number of MG dealerships must have doubled since most of the Roewe dealerships now stock MGs too and there are more Roewe dealerships than there where so an increase of a quarter would surely not be enough and a drop can only mean waiting lists and no cars in the showrooms!

The good news is that I think December saw record production, they may not manage to keep up through the spring break (chinese new year) though.

I take it the E50 is in the same category as the other passenger cars? If new energy cars were separate it wouldn't have 185 competitors!

Thank you for all your graphs and info throughout the year.

The latest figures bode well for the future.

Just need the UK to up the anti, sunny and all will be rosy in the garden.

Yes, I was surprised that they stuck it in with the normal cars, I was even more surprised that they have apparently sold out even though the free Shanghai licence has only just started! I'm wondering if there was a batch buy in the December E50 figures, even so, for a pure electric car it has sold well, I've no idea if its sales will increase from there or decrease. I'm also not sure if December contained all the new cars ready for the spring break, Chinese lunar new year is not till February so maybe there will be more good figures in January, although I think they will have to be down on December.

I suspect this will be the year when they decide it is worth advertising, and then things will get more serious in the UK. The BTCC test season is over, Plato will be expected to win this year and if they want the Manufacturers championship ready for advertising the MG5 at the end of the year then a second decent driver will be announced soon...

    Cheers

Edit: Thought I would check having just written that:

Sam Tordoff is optimistic of joining a frontrunning British Touring Car Championship team for the coming season.

"The plan is to race in British Touring Cars this year," he said on the AUTOSPORT Stage with KX on Thursday.

"Things are still in negotiations and should be announced soon."
