    The 1.5T engine was developed in partnership between SAIC and GM as part of a 2010 deal which saw the two work together to develop 1.0L to 1.5L engines which would included direct injection and turbo engines.

    I reckon the engine with turbo could easily see 160 BHP, is it being stunted as to not step on the toes of the TCI-Tech?

    Probably.

    I also read somewhere that its equal to the VW 1.4TFSI engine output.

    But presumably better to drive as it will have more torque and less turbo lag.

    Although I'm still waiting to see what the real figures are when it is launched in a couple of weeks time.

    I hope they stick the engine in the MG3 from launch, most will buy the non-turbo but the press reviews will be much better with it!

    Not seen any info though.

    The official word is, still, that it is. In fact, there was a road test of the Chinese spec version in Autocar magazine a month or two ago.

    Although, I have seen a few internet rumours that it isnt.

    Only time will tell I guess.

    The only reason I could see them cancelling a UK launch of the 5 is due to the amount of time that it has taken to get the 3 ready and that it would be too old by then.

    It might be a timescale thing. The 3 has been out for over a year already and is already having a harsh spotlight thrown on it - the 5 will be another 12 months down the line at least. Maybe if the 3 does really well, but, looking at the 6, I wonder...

    Well, nothing official yet. I do recall a product roadmap last year sometime where the 5 was due after the 3, but now they seem to be 'evaluating' it and refer to it as 'interesting'.

    I suppose, as much as they need something in that segment, it's the first sensible move they've made (in the UK anyway). It looked a bit past it last year.

    I don't think there's anything particularly wrong with the styling of the 5, I think it's far better looking than the Focus.



    I think the only thing that would stop it being successful in the UK is the lack of engine choice.

    I suspect an eco friendly engine is needed more than a 2L Turbo for the MG5 as it is essentially a smallish family car. The best selling ZS was the 1.8 but then there wasn't a lot of choice, when the 1.6 arrived it did sell quite well and even the 1.4 sold reasonably well in Ireland.
