New VW Polo GTI - it would be competition for a roadgoing MG3 Trophy!

There are very few models in MG3's class with over 105PS, but the new Polo GTI has a 1.8 turbo with 192PS, [old one had 1.4 with turbo and compressor, 180PS], 0-62 in 6.7s, costing at least £18k (though VW's options policy will soon drive that up!)

This would be an ideal model for a road-going MG3 Trophy to be pitched against.

Yes, lots of superminis but there aren't many models in the MG3's sector with more than 105PS. Above all, the Polo GTI has a tiny proportion of Polo sales and I couldn't say I had ever seen any of those or any of the others you mention with the potential exception of the Mini - aren't some of them only three-door models?

It's no longer a big sales area. The successful saleswoman who would once have wanted a 205 GTi now gets an SUV.

However, that tells us that some manufacturers think there is money to be made in the pocket rocket turbo model.
