    Third event
    Guangdong Fogang
    August 14-16

These dates also on Jussi's website.

I know the previous rally weekend moved - did this one?

I also note that Jussi is competing both in Finland and in China. That must be tough!

The 2009 China Rally Championship - Page 2 Empty Jussi Välimäki not drive next Finnish championchip event because China rally is at the same time!!

Post by mce Tue Aug 18, 2009 6:51 am

China rally season started late and therefore logistic reasons, they were forced to modify the competition days. Poor Lucky for this competition goes to the domestic Finnish rally series event overlapped and, therefore, STC-Meat (Välimäki) rally the team does not see the Kerava/Finland starting line.

true, even though our hero got onto the podium.

there was a famous Finn, Matti Laurila, called "the snowplough from Lapua". What could Jussi be? "The tree scarer from Tampere in start number 16 with fried rice"?

Are the Higgins related? (thinks Solberg)

Supposedly busy - will catch up on jussicams, where available, later...

Looks like Longyou was even worse than last year for the Finnish rally teams!

It's been nicknamed "The devil stage" by the Chinese press after "of the 79 cars which started, only 37 cars completed the first stage of the competition. " Twisted Evil

Fourth round of Chinese Rally Championship was full of technical problems for Flying Finn Jussi Välimäki. After two days and 16 special stage competition HongyunHonghe rally team driver suffered engine electrical problem, melting of transmission parts and two rear diff break ups. Also three fellow Finn rally drivers tackled with technical difficulties. Futhermore winner of two previous rounds, british David Higgins was disqualified due breaking the rally regulations.

Once again we saw that anything can happen in rally. Who would have
believed that our team junior driver takes third position in overall
classifications with broken finger and keeps our Championship hopes
alive due the points he gained.

Jussi is such a star! Is this him having a go at co-driving? Laughing

Here is Cao Yan of Maxxis Tire showing us the special Longyou 205/65R/15 mud tire developed at their R & D base in Kunshan, Jiangsu Province. That is an N class tire, but a similar one has brought them the S1 class win:

    The 2009 China Rally Championship - Page 2 2009111512544000

I'm having dificulty making sense of the results and it's all mixed up with the Asia Pacific Rally Championsips. It appears that 81 cars entered and only 33 cars finished the race.

In the S1 class this appears to be the winner:

The usual XPower style logo on the bonnet has been replaced by a badge style one.

The well-known driver in 2003 after training Ren Zhiguo Li Da-wei won the drivers qualified. Lee Da-wei seven years, participated in about 40 games short-track races and CRC-wide Championships, unfortunately, is not won a race. Li Wei, said: "After so many years of competition, she felt a certain level of accumulation, it should come to a time when the achievements of the out of pity is always ill-fated, even finish a period of time is the idea of luxury. Last year's Shaowu Rally, stage I have been very good, even more than a lot of 1.6L team racing, race can be won as long as the group winner reclaim Unfortunately, mechanical failures finally had to retire! "

Jussicams of Longyou now available at http://www.jussivalimaki.com/

    I have just watched no.3.

I note at 2 mins ish that you don't get much of a conversation if one part is in English and the answer is Finnish!

Jussi is saying something about "water" as he spreads AutoGlym on his windows. Keeps them moisture-free, I expect...

The stage begins at about 6'. It looks diabolical!

At 07'25" ish we see a gaggle of Chinese rally fans in red miniskirts and white thigh-length boots tottering over the clay road surface,

And at 08'00" ish I think we have Jussi's Sausage Report - the food actually looks quite good...

I should think that spreading the AutoGlym on the windows is about as effective as talking to Chinese news reporters in Finnish!

At least the Police cars are effective forms of transport Cool

That was a dangerous amount of exposives in a small box at the end Shocked

words heard (apart from "two, one" in the pace notes - if those are gears, it's a fierce stage!):

    • sausage
    • water
    • China
    • Mongolia?
    • rally
    • Santana!

    - he still doesn't say "squirrel" that I can hear...

am I right to say the MG is red and white striped?

or you can play Spot the Garfield! Wink

I noticed from Jussicam 1 that Alister McRae took part for Proton. Here's his pre-rally interview...at 7'30" on Jussicam 2 Jussi speaks to Alister (looks like he has a Finnish mechanic)

    Other highlights:

    Jussicam 1:

    • about 9', a "rickshaw rally"
    • about 10', a Chinese market hall complete with tiger-coloured dog in front of BYD poster
    • 16'20" - reminded me of the huge Finnish sweet shops, I thought these were boxes of tea but these are the fireworks that go off at the end of 1 and 3

Jussicam 2 (shorter than it seems it should be):

    • 2'30" - one of the locals drives past and speaks excellent Finnish! Wink
    • 6' - The man described on the opening credits as "Makro" (Marko) shows his pace notes. These do in fact end with the 2s (kaksi) and 1s (yksi) he is reading out in no.3
    • 7'30" - Jussi speaks to Alister McRae
    • 8'20" - "Makro" has a go at driving together with sound effects,,,,

The final round of the year is confirmed as the Shaowu City, Fujian Province stage on December 18th to 20th 2009.

The entry list shows three MG3SW cars all in the colours of the Maxxis Tyre Rally Team, and the usual entrants in the Japanese N4 class.

    thanks Windy.

I suppose it won't be the last season for the MG3SW or the man who shows us how to Lead The Way, but something to look out for at the weekend!

Meanwhile, I had a little look at Jussi's site and saw footage at Uusikaupunki ("New Town", where the Valmet Porsche factory is located). Watching him drive his Lancer over the gravel roads made me think of driving them in a rented bubble Civic (but a bit slower) - I more normally drive a 94 Fiesta but the experience isn't the same!

(NB - also in Uusikaupunki is the Bonk anchovy dynamo museum - an idea for Copenhagen?)

    http://www.bonkcentre.fi/p1_eng.htm

    Uusikaupunki
    was electrified by anchovy power

    The Bonk story is closely
interwoven with the history of Uusikaupunki. The company was founded
here more than a century ago, and the Bonk Vertical Reality assembly
    plant still provides local employment.
    In his founding speech of
1893, Pär Bonk declared "I shall make machines that make
Man happy". But the roots of the company are even older. The
Bonks were a simple fishing family from the island of Helgoland, not
far from Uusikaupunki. They made several discoveries, based on the
anchovy, which were to change the region completely.
The 2009 China Rally Championship - Page 2 Fisu
Firstly they re-invented Garum, an ancient
Roman fishy relish based on the Baltic anchovy. Garum is still made
and exported worldwide today. A by-product of this process was Anchovy
oil, an extremely viscous lubricant ideal for the harsh Northern climate,
which greased the wheels of nascent Nordic industries.
Overfishing lead to the extinction of the
Baltic anchovy, but imported Giant Peruvian anchovies were bred in
heated rock pools revealing the existence of the Anchovy Effect –
a marine dynamo. So began the rapid growth of an industrial empire
that has brought forth a cornucopia of inventions.
    And it all started
    here – in Uusikaupunki.

Looks like Jari Ketomaa and Miika Teiskonen won. I'm off to translate the page into English. As far as I can see, no mention of "squirrel" (though I reckon "celebrate" is appropriate for this pair)

    http://yle.fi/urheilu/lajit/moottoriurheilu/ralli/2009/12/ketomaa_paatti_rallikauden_komeaan_voittoon_171309.html

Jari Ketomaa ja Miika Teiskonen juhlivat voittoa.

Jari Ketomaa sai vastaanottaa kasapäin onnitteluja, kun mikkeliläinen
Suomen mestari ajoi voittoon Kiinan rallisarjan päätöskilpailussa
    Shaowu-rallissa.

That car's orange, but it's never an MG6. The badge looks a bit like the Pleiades constellation and it has a Sydney Opera House vent. Is it a Subaru?

    The 2009 China Rally Championship - Page 2 Id171309-kuva1

Two matches on the whole interrent and they're both in Finnish! (doesn't help that there was an anti-(P.R.) China Rally in Taiwan today...)

    In autotranslatese:

Jari Ketomaa and Miika Teiskonen celebrating the victory. (1 to pat!) Team Image: Fcaca Rally Team Jari Ketomaa had received congratulations from a raft [???], when the Michaelmas fair Finnish champion drove to victory in China Rally series race Shaowu decision-rally. Subaru[yep!] driver was also the fastest on Sunday, so Ketomaa and co-driver Miika Teiskonen saalistivat team competition in a series of maximal 16 points, that is the number one mode of competition with 10 points and three points in two days of gains. Ketomaa the closing day of the rally was the fastest of the three capturing the emotions of the other three base-time-registered Mitsubishi driver Jussi Intermediate Hill.

[intermediateHill - he's a great guy from the Tamperarea, drives a red car with three diamonds!]

    - On Saturday, we were clearly the better way, but we were hard pressed by Välimäki due to the end. I wanted to really reach the second day of victory, Ketomaa sighed with satisfaction. Ketomaalla overall competition was not to worry, when the second and third, based in the UK David Higgins and Välimäki were more than a minute away. - I appreciate this highly individual profit, when these roads kanssakilpailijoillani has much more experience.Higgins 'team won the championship in character, but we had the pleasure of the team peaked at the local stables friends why he won the drivers' championship.

Bid again next year Ketomaata in China toward the end part of the ajattanut Fcaca Rally
Team immediately offered a fresh next season suomalaiskuljettajalleen comprehensive agreement.(I think Jari has a new contract!)
    - I'm so happy for the team's personnel. They worked hard to advance as soon as the race and the tests since they had a great desire to succeed with me. Even I can not confirm the event calendar for next season, [surprise] as negotiations are in progress in different directions. Here, success is hardly made a frost over the next period of plans, decided to Ketomaa.

so a Brit has won the "big cars" class for the series overall and JM was third on the rally! look forward to the jussicams...

wonder how Li Da Wei did?

NB that appears to be the exact same winner's arch, but higher-definition for Jari!

Here I have a sentence where one word hasn't made it:

I appreciate this highly individual profit, when these roads kanssakilpailijoillani has much more experience

I was beginning by guessing "with my tortoise". (shield backed animal)

However, the sense is an inflection of "my competitors" (competing with me for the shield/trophy).

    Doh

Why can't they talk more about squirrels? Laughing

If Shaowu was a person, it would be a skinhead in DMs.

No wonder so many cars were damaged! I've watched Jussi's rally coverage (no non-rally Jussicams) and I don't know where the mike is, but it's subjected to a constant barrage of rocks!

Take a corner too fast and fly into the scenery. Cut a corner and drive into either a) a ditch b) some rock or both.

From this välimäki video of SS10 things start off nicely on a tarmac road like the German rally, but 3 minutes in, the metalled surface turns the dirt with a crunch!

Do we have a scoreboard for 2009 pre- or post-Suzuki?
