The January sales figures should be the first to include the MG6.

    2010 - Sales Figures Dealer2

The news from the dealers is very encouraging with 10,000 orders to the end of January, a two month waiting list and the factory working flat out.

Dealers overwhelmed by MG6 orders, became the latest new car sales - "The New King"

    2010 - Sales Figures 20102492318701

With the unique Fast-Back design, a long brand history and the Shanghai Automotive R & D manufacturing capability, the MG6 listing attracted a large amount of consumer attention, the sales are on fire.

At the beginning of February, news came from the Shanghai Automotive headquarters located in Jiading: at 40 days since the MG6 listing, consumers are treating the car enthusiastically. As at end of last month, the aggregate effective orders for the MG6 have already exceeded 10 thousand cars, in order to achieve full-year sales targets has laid a solid foundation. Meanwhile, the Shanghai Automotive also said that the Lingang port base is at full capacity in order to ensure that consumers can get cars as soon as possible. The reporter also from a single Shanghai MG dealer learned that each week has received nearly a hundred MG6 orders, also mentioned the availability date for the car is now in March. However, the dealer said it is actively liaising with the factory to strive to make cars that consumers can obtain for the Chinese New Year.

For the MG6, the 40 days, 10 thousand orders may be only a start, we have reason to believe that, by virtue of the possession of the many excellent genes, the MG6 are fully capable of success in 2010, the Shanghai Automotive and consumer to make a success. We also fully believe that as the MG6 end of the year in Europe, China's auto market will open a new page.

    2010 - Sales Figures Dealer1

In the dealer, learned that the car models priced 12.88 thousand 1.8DVVT comfort version and priced at 16.68 thousand for 1.8T Elite's, which is the most popular.

MG6 1.8T model greater than the proportion of pre-booking market expectations. Orders from the national perspective, the volume of orders in January nearly a 2:1 ratio.

MG dealer, said consumers are generally great enthusiasm for to buy 1.8T models, reflecting the consumer acceptance of this product is high status.

But the availability date for the car is now in March!
So can we expect that 5,000 will be registered in March. Good news for China & UK MG

The end of the queue is currently well into March - That doesn't mean that some lucky people haven't already got one!

    Some dealers have plenty:

Mind you, if the dealer is selling 100 per week then that short row will be gone in 3 hours.

Post by patpending Mon Feb 08, 2010 9:10 am

    That does look good.

IIRC MG want to sell 36,000 cars in 2010, having sold some 10,000 in 2009.

If the 3SW and the 7 sell at the same rate (but aren't 3SW sales rising?) then that's 26,000 6s - 10,000 already ordered?

For the "quirky" sister of the "sensible" big-selling 550, that's a great result!

Do you get to the head of the queue for a 6 if you dress up as a pumpkin in the MG showroom? Wink

It's the dragons that need to look out, for the upcoming year is the year of those beasts with the coats of flame in the colour of Birmingham Orange:

    2010 - Sales Figures Tiger_tiger_burning_bright_large

    2010 - Sales Figures Mg6redside

The year of the Tiger starts on Sunday 21st February 2010.

    Tiger Tiger. burning bright,
    In the forests of the night;
    What immortal hand or eye.
    Could frame thy fearful symmetry?

In what distant deeps or skies.
Burnt the fire of thine eyes?
On what wings dare he aspire?
What the hand, dare seize the fire?

And what shoulder, & what art,
Could twist the sinews of thy heart?
And when thy heart began to beat.
What dread hand? & what dread feet?

What the hammer? what the chain,
In what furnace was thy brain?
What the anvil? what dread grasp.
    Dare its deadly terrors clasp?

When the stars threw down their spears
And watered heaven with their tears:
Did he smile His work to see?
Did he who made the lamb make thee?

    Tiger Tiger burning bright,
In the forests of the night:
    What immortal hand or eye,
    Dare frame thy fearful symmetry?

    As Team Rocket said:

    And make it double!"

The Ssangyong Double Dragons had better look out! (I knew it was one or the other)

Could it be that the MG6 needs a stripy disguise? Wink

I'm a bit supprised by these figures, but they do seem to be genuine:

SAIC Motor - January Sales 2010

    CarSalesRank
    Roewe 550 10,286 28
    MG 3SW1,834 107
    Roewe 7501,333111
    MG 61,114 116
    MG 7270 140

Which gives SAIC Motor a grand total of 14,837 for January and puts them in 21st place having overtaken the very well established Great Wall Motor which is quite an achievement!

Note that the MG6 did not actually start deliveries until well into January, February should see a big increase if the cars can be produced in sufficent volumes.

Im rarther suprised at the sales of the 3SW, not bad.

The 550 is selling well, I hope the 6 does as well in the next few months so we can see more investment in the brand.

Looking back at last years figures, January was nothing special. I guess the sudden increase may be the impact of the MG6 launch but there should probably have been some increase in December if that was the case. scratch

yes, the 550 continues to be the big seller.

3SW + 7 = 2,000 so if that was kept at that level that would be MG sales of 24,000 in the year, more than twice 2009, and with the MG6 the 36,000 looks doable.

    That's without the TF.

The MG7 is being outsold five times by the 750, about four times by the MG6 (true rate much higher) and a massive 38 times by the 550. If I were responsible for justifying the floorplan at Lingang, I would be thinking hard about the MG7 (which has only just arrived). Maybe a big marketing drive?

Very impressive. I see we may see a concept car at the Beijing Auto show in April. I am told that the TF is no longer being made in China - but it is not yet clear if a TF sports car replacement is very high up the agenda of the SAIC management. If that proves to be so, that would surely be a pity and a waste of a great opportunity.

Yes Beijing is certain for the launch of the Roewe 350 and expecting the new MG3 concept.

There has been almost no demand for the MG TF in China so production effort has been realocated to the R350 and its new engine. It has been a very useful sales tool in China though so a replacement would seem sensible once UK and other markets where it might sell are re-established but I guess that will be three years away! If it was to sell in China then it would need to be a significantly higher class product than the current TF.

Lack of a Chinese market for the TF was expected but I noticed the other day that despite the MG3 having low sales figures last year, it was actually the 9th best seller in the small car catagory. They do not yet have a big market for small cars either which explains the very slow progress on the Roewe 150. (http://news.bitauto.com/gdspl/20100208/1705099262.html)

But Longbridge TFs are made in Longbridge so no Chinese assembly line makes no difference.

They still have the presses and welding robots so can run off another batch of bodies.

so the TF could continue at the long bridge MG Birmingham even if production stopped in Nanjing?

They are cushions, and they are in an MG dealer.

Not sure if there is a good reason for Birmingham Orange cushions, maybe owning a British design means that many Chinese people require a cushion? Although I think they may be in return for the deposit - a status symbol showing that you have an MG6 on order.

2010 - Sales Figures Empty Re: 2010 - Sales Figures

Post by Windy Sun Feb 14, 2010 4:19 pm

According to the Xiangyu MG 4S shop (in the relative East of China) they now have a waiting list for MG6s of three to four weeks with the majority of orders being for the Birmigham Orange Automatic "comfort" version. And I thought the Chinese all liked non-colourful cars! They also say that, based on pre-sales orders, the manufacturers target sales figures should be no problem to achieve, they expect the 4S shop to sell over 1000 in the first year.

The MG Beijing regional "person in charge" said that in addition to the listing of the MG 6, this year the MG product line will also be expanded to inclue other new models, "there will be the new R2 concept car listed in the second second half of the year, based on a cut down version of the Roewe 350 platform. Also the MG TF facelift will be carried out, the new model will be modified on the basis of changing the style so that more people will be able to accept it." he said.

An up-market TF? I guess he wasn't suggesting that the TF facelift would arrive this year scratch

February sales are down apparantly due to long new lunar year holidays.

There is still a waiting list for the MG6, presumably they are still ramping up the production.

There also seems to be a shortage of MG7 at present!

Hmm can't see how to edit that.

Not great news. The 550's result is easily the most important, and that big drop has affected the total.

The MG6 is already top MG but still sells only a third what the 550 does...

Is that just for China or is the UK getting another facelifted TF too? I think that they should have started work on the new TF that was in Autocar for development and production at Longbridge?

I would guess that it would be mainly for UK and USA, they have shown that there isn't much market for a 2 seater in China and it would be an ideal way to re-enter the USA.

Cool. DO you think it'll look a lot different to the current TF?

I am sure that it will look like a new MG sportscar, but if I was designing it then I would not be trying to make a new TF. We have already had F and TF, it's time for a change...

Exactly....I wanted a Brand New TF from the ground up. Not just a re-hash version.
