News from MG MOTOR UK Ltd - Page 8 Empty Launch of MG6 technical training

Post by richardk Thu Mar 31, 2011 10:34 am

    http://www.mg.co.uk/news-events/latest-news.aspx#/?page=NEWS_TRAINING

Last week, the team here at MG Birmingham started the MG6 Technical Training for MG dealer technicians.

The training takes place on site at MG Birmingham in the famous ‘roundhouse’, where the technicians partake in workshop and classroom activities.

The day kicks off with an a video of Quentin Wilson introducing and test driving the car, following on to have an in-depth look at the physical layout of the car, connecting the cars up to laptops to test the vehicle network, hardware and electrical units and use the diagnostic equipment.

The training has been designed and delivered by our very own ‘Technical Gurus’, Steve Baker and Andy Foster, who, together, developed and produced the Technical Workbook for the MG6.

News from MG MOTOR UK Ltd - Page 8 Empty The making of our TV advert Part 3

Post by richardk Tue Apr 05, 2011 9:39 am

Filming at MG’s state of the art factory in Ling Gang, Shanghai started bright and early in the morning and, thanks in part to using the new state of the art Canon 5D cameras, all the desired shots were ‘in the can’ by 7pm at night. This is a new camera and the size/portability of the camera (actually a DSLR still camera body) means that not only can the work be done at speed, and without the cost of film, but the camera can easily fit into small otherwise inaccessible areas making it perfect for getting in and amongst the fantastic machinery that makes the MG6 line such a sight to behold.

There crew filmed a variety of facilities in the factory including, the body assembly area where the huge robots welded the main body panels together, areas where parts were being welded by hand, the door attachment line, the paint shop, an audit bay resplendent with gleaming MG6, the under chassis inspection pit, and finally the glass bridge through which the partially finished cars moved form one area of the plant to another.

After the odd pick up and addition from our Birmingham home, the filming is all complete, the next stop is the editing suite!

News from MG MOTOR UK Ltd - Page 8 Empty Local MG dealers get their first MG6

Post by richardk Thu Apr 14, 2011 12:38 pm

    http://www.mg.co.uk/news-events/latest-news.aspx#/?page=DEALERS_MG6_TAKEAWAY

Today, the majority of local MG dealers travelled from around the UK to pick up their first MG6 show car.

The dealers picked up their cars from MG Birmingham, where they then travelled in convoy to Birmingham City Centre and parked up in front of the Council house in Centenary Square for the Birmingham public to see.

Birmingham City Councillor, Mike Whitby, gave an encouraging speech to the dealers in front of the viewing public and then met and posed for photographs with each of the dealers.

Mark Gough, ITN News correspondent and his film crew was there to capture the day, so please keep a watch out for MG in the news again tonight.

News from MG MOTOR UK Ltd - Page 8 Empty The Making of our TV Advert – Part 1 (sorry it's out of sequence)

Post by richardk Sat Apr 16, 2011 5:01 am

Preparing for the first MG commercial for UK television for the first time in 7 years was a significant task, and ensuring all the logistics were organised was imperative. Filming was held at the Shanghai factory and in Hong Kong (more updates on these locations to follow soon!).

Planning took place in the UK well in advance of the filming in Hong Kong and at the Shanghai factory. European specification MG6s were transported from our Shanghai factory to Hong Kong, while initial location scouting and casting was carried out at both locations.

Contact was also made early on with the MG Car Club of Hong Kong. They kindly supplied the film crew with a number of classic cars which feature primarily in our Brand film.

Keep an eye out for further updates on ‘the making of’…

So why was filming carried out in Hong Kong?

Mainly because of the UK’s unpredictable January weather! Not only do the roads and buildings around Hong Kong look British but Ridley Scott Associates have a production office there meaning the crew could take advantage of the beautiful scenery and roads, such as Tai Tam and Stone Cutters Bridge.

Filming here took two weeks including casting and location scouting. The weather was fantastic ensuring the new MG6 looked stunning, as did the classic MGs.

Don’t forget to keep an eye out for further updates on the ‘making of MGs first TV advert in 7 years’…

Had a good inspection of the car yesterday at POL and a lengthy chat with an MG Motors guy.
Very impressed with the car and clarified some answers to some questions often posted.

We also talked about future MG products including the new MG 3, 5 and 7.

Interesting chat about the future MG6 engine line-up with the 1.9 Diesel and the NLE 2.0 Turbo due to go in next year.

There is also a 2.5L NLE which I was told does slot into the engine bay of the 6.

The next exciting chapter for MG is revealed as the new MG5 Concept at the 2011 Shanghai Motor Show.

The MG5 is aimed at a slightly more mature and sophisticated audience than the previous ‘supermini’ MG Zero Concept, with a more refined and dynamic style and chic technical finish.

The car’s main features include LED head cluster lights, rear spoiler to improve stance and aerodynamics with a sophisticated sporty look and feel.

The new contemporary style of the five-door hatchback was designed at the new design centre at MG Birmingham by Tony Williams-Kenny (Design Director) and his team.

    More to come soon.....

Once all the filming had taken place in Shanghai and Hong Kong, it was time to edit all the many hours of footage down to just 2 and a half minutes for the brand film and 30 seconds for the TV advert.

RSA worked with the Sales and Marketing team at MG Birmingham to finalise the advert and four edits of the brand film, one with a voice over and one with titles, the other two versions were produced for MG in China which had some footage differences.

RSA produced many drafts, but it was all about syncing the voice over and music with the video and getting it absolutely right - down to the tiniest millisecond for a smooth and sophisticated outcome.

And so the countdown starts: 10 days to the first airing of the MG TV advert…

so are you saying we should expect "Hitler finds a whopping great millisecond in the new advert"? lol. Tell me about syncing sound...

Also - what has the Republic of South Africa got to do with MG adverts? lol

News from MG MOTOR UK Ltd - Page 8 Empty UK name for MG6 unveiled

Post by richardk Tue May 10, 2011 9:43 am

    http://www.mg.co.uk/news-events/latest-news.aspx#/?page=NEWS_MG6_UK_NAME

MG is proud to announce that the UK name of the new MG6 fastback is the MG6 GT.

Starting at only £15,495 on the road, the MG6 GT is available in three trim levels – S, SE and TSE – with great equipment as standard and seven spectacular colours to choose from, there is no doubt that there is an MG6 GT for everyone.

As MG begins a new chapter with the MG6 the first car of a new generation, it seemed appropriate to use a name from the most famous MG fastback - the hugely successful MGB GT.

It gave me a "You need flash!" message, and even when I found some flash, it was still hard to read!

Pitty you can't cut and paste it to somewhere more easy to read!

And wasn't it the Shanghai Motor Show that we just had? The Beijing one is next year!

    The MG5 Concept

The MG5 Concept represents an exciting new chapter in MG's history.

    MG5 Concept 5_med.jpg

This five-door hatchback was developed at MG Birmingham under the UK Design Director, Tony Williams-Kenny. The new model was recently unveiled at the Beijing Motor Show, where it received much critical acclaim.

The main features of the car include LED head cluster lights, rear spoiler stance and an aerodynamic shape, all of which offer a look that's both sporty and sophisticated.

    I've just had my say.

Personally I think the car is fantastic and has achieved what it set out to do by grabbing attention for the brand.

Being a long MG Rover fan, owner and a long standing member on the biggest UK MG enthusiasts website, I get to read many comments by other members.
One criticism seems to be that whilst the concepts look very good, sporting and appealing, when the actual production cars are released people seem to be somewhat underwhelmed. Obviously certain features need to be changed for practical reasons and to make them feasible for production, however some of the flair of the original concepts are lost.
The MG3 compared to the Zero concept for example, although obviously we haven't seen a UK production version yet, the general consensus is that if the version we get isn't vastly changed from what is currently available in China, then the car could have a very negative impact on the brand. The Zero on the other hand also got rave reviews.

I have already seen pictures of MG5 mules undergoing testing and I am hoping that the production car will try and hold on to as many details from the concept as possible, firstly because I care about the brand and want it to do well and secondly because I will be one of the people that will be buying this car.
