I think they should get that on sale in Europe ASAP, people will want it, doesn't matter where it is made, people will still want it.
Of course assembly at Longbridge would be very desirable, but people will still want it...

I was just thinking about the MG6.

    What a beautiful-looking new MG! Not okay-looking, it's beautiful! In 2009!

It would be an adornment to the B*W or Audi ranges from its style.

    Can't wait to see one.

Definately mate. I can't believe some of the negativity towards it. Imagine the reaction if we got a 550 with an MG badge on it? OK the 550 is a great car, but the 6 is on another level if you ask me.

Another well-known site refers to the Roewe MG6...and is concerned about where it is made...the true MG fan wouldn't care if it was made in Timbuctoo if it was good! Doh

You're absolutely right sir. I've just been on the other forum and the negativity and thinly-veiled racism quite frankly appauls me. I think the MG6 looks utterly fantastic. The money in my savings account is bursting to get out and pay for one! And to be completely honest, it's the MG brand I crave - not too bothered where they're made. The fact that the Honda Jazz is produced in China doesn't seem to harm its sales one bit. Why should it be a problem for MG?

Just posted this on the other forum:
Some of you guys seriously need a reality check around the economics of car manufacturing. If the Chinese hadn't invested in MG we would have absolutely zero to talk about today. And all this feux-nationalism and desperation to buy British did bugger all to help the brands we adore back in April 2005.

I'm disappointed that the anti-China drum keeps getting beat on this forum which is supposed to be an enthusiasts site for MG and Rover. We should be delighted that there's a new model about to be launched. However, instead some contributers (who have been very quiet of late) decide to return with the same old tired (and thiny-veiled racist) arguments. If people somehow believe buying a Volvo S80 for example is in some way staying true to supporting British manufacturing, then there's really no hope for you.

In order for SAIC to re-establish MG, the simple fact of the matter is that a large number of Chinese-produced cars will have to come first before Longbridge is considered for production. If you don't like that, then you don't have to buy the cars. But I would argue that anyone who is genuinely enthusiastic about MG, will have the vision to buy the Chinese-produced cars in the short-term in order to support the brand and secure Longbridge's future for the medium and long term.

I don't expect UK MGs to be built in China any more than I expect Honda to close down it's Swindon plant and build all Hondas in Japan. If it makes sense for Honda to move production of the Jazz from China to Swindon then it makes sense for MG to build MGs in Longbridge. The decision will be not be based on what a few "enthusiasts" think though, it will be a business decision based on costs of production, sourcing components and resources, shipping etc. Both SAIC and the Chinese Goverment want their automobile businesses to go Global and it will which means Global production, the only question is when to press the Start button. The start may be slightly delayed due to economic conditions but in reality, SAIC has a lot of catching up to do with the other global companies, now is a very good time to do the catching up if they can afford it, and as one of very few global auto companies to still be profitable they are in a good position.

while the Button Sterling buys so few Rimbimlimbimwings, it makes sense to maximise use of Longbridge anyway.

I think the images of the red car are photographs of the real thing.

They are taken under studio lighting and photoshopped after but they do show an actual car I believe.

I'm more worried about the inside, the Roewe 550 interior has never looked suitable for an MG to me so I'm hopeing for different styling on the MG version...
